Marvel Rivals: How to Beat Ultron (Phase 7 and Phase 11)

Ultron doesn't just show up once in this mode, he shows up twice, and the second time he's got more than four times the health bar to back it up.

What you're actually fighting through

The Avengers: Age of Ultron mode runs you through an 11-phase gauntlet with one target waiting at the end of it. Eleven phases sounds like a lot to sit through just to reach him, but I promise the earlier waves move faster than the number makes it sound. Blood Hunt rotated through multiple bosses, but this mode builds toward two direct fights with the same robotic tyrant, once at Phase 7 and again at Phase 11. He's beatable on both Common and Hard once you know what he's actually doing, and that's really the whole trick to this fight.

If you still need the rundown on hero kits, launch steps, or the full reward list, the Age of Ultron mode guide covers all of that. This one's just about getting past Ultron himself.

Picking your hero before you queue in

Iron Man is the strongest pick for this fight, and it comes down to positioning more than raw damage. Ultron spends almost the entire fight airborne, and Iron Man is one of the only heroes who can match that vertical space while still putting out consistent damage.

Hero Aerial Mobility Drone Clearing Boss Damage
Iron Man Excellent Excellent (Micro Missile Barrage) Excellent (Invincible Pulse Cannon)
Black Widow Poor Moderate Moderate
Other grounded heroes Poor Varies Limited vs. airborne targets

Micro Missile Barrage comes with auto-lock, so it tears through Sentry drone waves without needing precise aim. That frees you up to keep tracking Ultron's position instead of micromanaging every drone kill. Save Invincible Pulse Cannon for the Phase 11 endgame, when Ultron is low and surrounded by his drone swarm, since it hits him and everything around him at once.

There's also a perk that boosts damage at range, worth grabbing since you'll already be dodging backward from lasers for most of the fight anyway. I've made peace with camping at a distance and backpedaling for an entire encounter, which is apparently just how you're supposed to play him here. If you'd rather bring someone else because you like their kit more, that's fine too, you'll just be working harder to stay in the fight while Ultron's in the air.

Why Ultron doesn't fight like other bosses

Ultron spends almost the entire fight in the air, and he rarely plants himself on the ground long enough for grounded heroes to feel comfortable. I've tried grounded heroes against him and ended up spending most of the fight staring up at his boots, which is exactly the kind of afternoon you're trying to avoid. His attack patterns are readable once you've seen them a couple of times, but the drone waves he keeps summoning are designed to split your attention at exactly the wrong moments. Knowing when to chase Ultron and when to peel off and clean up his Sentries is most of what separates a clean win from a long, ugly one.

Surviving Phase 7

Phase 7 is your first real look at Ultron's kit, and he shows up with 494,000 HP. This is genuinely the easier of the two fights, more of a warmup than the real test.

The opening laser

He opens with a laser beam attack, and if a caution symbol shows up on your hero, you're the one he's targeting. I never feel like that symbol gives me enough warning, so treat it as your cue to start moving, not a countdown. Get going with your hero's mobility option as soon as you see it, since standing there just means eating more damage the longer the beam stays on you.

The drone wave everyone ignores

Right after the laser, he summons a wave of Sentry drones. If you've already made the mistake of ignoring them to keep hammering Ultron instead, you're in good company. I did the exact same thing on my first run, and the drones picked me apart from behind while I wasn't paying attention. They'll chip your health down from behind while you're focused forward, so it's worth having someone peel off to clear them while the rest of the team keeps pressure on Ultron.

How the fight escalates

As his health drops, he switches from one targeted laser to firing several at once, and the dodge window gets tighter even though the pattern's still readable. His whole Phase 7 kit comes down to three things: the unibeam, the drone summons, and the multi-laser barrage near the end. Stay mobile, clear drones as they show up, and spend your abilities on Ultron whenever there's a gap between his attacks.

The real fight: Phase 11

Phase 11 is a different fight altogether. Ultron comes back with 2,090,000 HP, more than four times what he had in Phase 7, and this time you're also protecting Friday while you work through his health bar. It's a battle of sustained output more than anything else.

Chasing him across the arena

He also starts relocating to the far side of the arena during this phase, and I've burned more time chasing him on foot than actually landing hits. Use the jump pads scattered around to close the distance fast, or you'll spend half the fight just catching up to him.

Drones and health packs

The structure is close to what you saw in Phase 7, except Ultron leans harder on his drones while he repositions, letting his elite drones handle the pressure while he's on the move. Clear those efficiently, then get straight back to him. Health packs are scattered around the arena too, and since there's no Strategist healing in this mode, they're your only way to recover. Don't skip past them if your health starts dropping.

The endgame drone dump

Once Ultron gets down to roughly 25% HP, he throws every drone he has at you at once. It's the most dangerous stretch of the fight, mostly because it's built to pull your focus away from him. Dodge the projectiles, but keep your damage on Ultron instead of chasing drones down individually. He's close to falling at that point, and when he finally does, every drone left standing goes down with him, so hunting them separately just drags the fight out for no reason.

Protecting Friday

Protect Friday through all of this. Both Ultron and his drones will target her, and if she takes too much damage, the fight gets a lot harder to manage. I always forget she's there until she's already halfway gone, so consider this your reminder before you even queue in.
