Monster Hunter Stories 3 Combination Recipes: The Complete Crafting Guide
Being too broke to buy potions is a miserable way to fail a hunt, which is why you need to learn how to craft your own supplies like a responsible adult.
Capcom locks the Combine feature behind story progression in Act 1, which means you spend the first few hours completely dependent on whatever garbage you scrape off the dirt. Once it finally unlocks in your menu, you still have to hunt down the actual recipes from vendors and annoyingly specific side quests. It is a tedious loop, but ignoring it guarantees you will get flattened by the first late game boss that looks your way.
I am going to break down exactly how to get every recipe in the game so you can stop relying on merchant handouts. If you are constantly burning through your supplies because your monsters keep taking massive damage, you should also probably review my MHS3 tips for beginners to fix your combat strategy.
Unlocking Recipes and The Melynx Emporium
You start the game with the basic Potion recipe and virtually nothing else. To expand your crafting book, you have two main avenues.
The first is completing side stories for NPCs like Gaul, Kora, Ogden, and Thea. These quests pop up as you progress the main campaign and are entirely unmissable if you are paying attention to town markers.
The second, much more expensive route is the Melynx Emporium. This Felyne trader shows up next to the camps you unlock in the wilds. You cannot use normal currency here. You have to exchange Silver Trade Points, which you earn by doing specific quests or hunting specific marks. If you have not figured out how to establish those overworld camps yet, check out my guide on Feral Monsters and fast travel to get your map fully functional.
The Items You Actually Need to Care About
You do not need to craft every single item on this list constantly. Some are incredibly niche, but a few are absolute lifesavers that you should hoard.
You want to prioritize Demondrugs and Armorskins immediately. Boosting your attack and defense before a brutal fight is often the only way to survive a monster's enraged phase. Dash Juice is another mandatory craft, especially if you are running stamina hungry weapons like the Hammer or Longsword.
I also highly recommend stocking up on Sleep and Paralysis Knives. Being able to inflict a status ailment with a throwing knife means you do not have to waste a turn swapping out your active Monstie to find the right elemental counter. If you need help finding the right monsters to cover those gaps anyway, my MHS3 egg farming and habitat guide will point you in the right direction. Finally, hoard Paintballs. You need them to force monsters to retreat into dens so you can steal their eggs.
The Complete Recipe Master List
Here is the hard data, every consumable item, what it requires, and exactly who you have to talk to in order to unlock it. Stop buying potions and start picking weeds.
Now stop ignoring those shiny gathering points on the ground and get to work gathering herbs. You are going to need them.
