The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin Tier List: Who to Pull, Who to Bench, and Who to Burn
Gacha games are already a test of my patience, but adding a sprawling open world means you now have to worry about traversal just as much as combat.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is finally out, and Netmarble actually built a gorgeous, massive version of Britannia. It sounds incredible on paper. You can fish, cook, and explore hidden dungeons. The harsh reality hits when you realize you are slowly trudging up a mountain on foot while missing half the treasure chests because you brought the wrong characters. The combat meta is deeply tied to the weapon system. A character is only as good as the weapon they have equipped, and more importantly, their unique adventure skills dictate how much of your actual real life time is wasted running around.
I have spent too much time grinding through the map, testing every weapon combination, and realizing how badly the game punishes you for ignoring exploration utilities. Locking a literal treasure chest radar behind a gacha pull is undeniably evil, but it is the reality we are dealing with. I am here to break down the roster from the absolute gods of Britannia to the dead weight holding your account back.
SS Tier: The Account Carries
These characters fundamentally alter how you experience the game. Getting even one of these units will save you hours of grinding and mapping.
Meliodas
The Dragon Sin of Wrath is a mandatory exploration unit. Meliodas comes with a double jump and wall climbing built into his adventure skills. I spent two hours trying to find a path up a cliff face before I pulled him. Now I just scale walls like it is nothing.
Combat wise, he is a Darkness DPS that excels across multiple weapon types. Equip him with an Axe, and his Special Attack inflicts Demon Energy for massive single target burst damage. Swap him to Dual Swords, and his Demonic Power passive starts restoring his HP while shredding groups of enemies. He never leaves my active party.
King
King is a Divine element unit capable of filling both DPS and support roles simultaneously. When equipped with a Grimoire, he decreases the damage your entire party takes while boosting healing output. His Ultimate drops a massive barrier. If you swap him to a Staff, his Bloom mechanic shatters enemy defense and spikes his own critical hit chance.
More importantly, his adventure skill is a short range blink. Gap closing across the open world or dodging massive boss AOE attacks is a breeze when you can just teleport out of danger.
Elaine
Elaine is your premier Wind DPS and frontloaded burst support. Her kit is absurdly loaded. If you give her a Wand, she buffs her own critical damage while staggering enemies to reduce her cooldowns. If you hand her a Staff, she flat out increases the party's Burst Efficiency and provides party wide damage reduction with her Ultimate.
Her true value shines with a Grimoire. She can petrify enemies, which forces them to take increased Physical and Earth damage. Pair her with an Earth DPS, and you have an infinite loop of crowd control and destruction.
S Tier: The Specialists
These characters might lack the universal dominance of the SS tier, but their specific niches make them invaluable.
Drake
I previously thought Drake was just an okay Lightning DPS. I was completely wrong. Having Drake in your party reveals nearby treasure chests on your mini map. In a game that demands constant material farming, Drake literally pays for his own gacha pulls by ensuring you never walk past hidden loot.
In a fight, he holds his own. Equipped with a Greatsword, his King's Magic buff spikes his Lightning attack and critical chance. His cooldowns are incredibly short, making him a fantastic sub DPS to swap in, drop a powerful Ultimate, and swap out.
Mannie
Mannie is the ice equivalent of Drake when it comes to open world utility. She shows nearby Star Fragments on your map. You will need hundreds of these fragments to progress your account, and searching blindly for them is an exercise in pure misery. Pulling Mannie immediately accelerates your exploration progress.
In combat, she is a ranged Ice DPS. Give her a Staff, and she becomes a dedicated support that provides a party wide critical damage buff. She is flexible, useful, and absolutely worth the investment.
Diane
Diane is the quintessential Earth tank. Her damage scales with her Defense stat, meaning you can build her to be an unkillable brick wall while she still hits like a freight train. Hand her a pair of Gauntlets, and her Tag Skill instantly taunts all enemies on the field. Her Ultimate triggers Heavy Metal, making her entirely immune to elemental reactions. When a boss starts casting a screen wipe mechanic, you swap to Diane and just stand there.
Jericho
Jericho requires heavy babysitting, but her damage output justifies the effort. With a Lance equipped, she relies on Frozen Breath to keep her defense up while providing herself a barrier. If you swap her to Dual Swords, her Frozen Saber ability turns her into a critical hit machine. Her Ultimate decreases enemy Cold resistance, making her the perfect main DPS for a dedicated Frost team. Keep a healer nearby, because she will drop fast if she gets cornered.
A Tier: Niche but Capable
You can clear most of the game with these units, provided you build teams specifically around their limitations.
Tristan
The actual main character of the game feels a bit undercooked. He is a solid Wind or Fire support depending on his weapon. With a Longsword, he buffs the party's Wind attack and inflicts Bleed. With Dual Swords, he boosts Fire attack and shreds Fire defense. He is a great buffer, but his personal damage falls off hard in the late game.
Guila
Guila is a respectable Fire DPS. Her Demon Form enhances her overall damage across the board. Using a Rapier allows her to increase her Fire Burst efficiency and melt enemy defense, while a Sword and Shield setup turns her into a decent barrier tank. She is highly versatile, but the Fire element currently lacks the raw stopping power of Earth or Frost.
Howzer
Howzer is a Wind bruiser. Using Gauntlets, he increases your party's Wind damage against bleeding enemies. This makes him a perfect pairing with Tristan. He is incredibly fun for the early game story missions, but you will eventually need units with better scaling.
Bug
Bug is a bizarre character. With a Grimoire, he taunts enemies and increases the Darkness damage they take from your party. He is meant to be a setup unit for characters like Meliodas, but his own damage is incredibly weak.
B Tier: The Benchwarmers
Unless you have absolutely no other options for these specific elements, do not waste your premium upgrade materials here.
Characters like Dreydrin, Dreyfus, Gilthunder, and Griamore are simply outclassed by the rest of the roster. Gilthunder looks flashy with a Longsword, but his lightning damage pales in comparison to Drake. Griamore tries to be a tank with a Sword and Shield, but Diane does his job infinitely better while dealing twice the damage. Leave these characters at level one and save your resources for the gods and specialists.
