Subnautica 2 GuideL: How to Find and Farm Silver
Suffocating at the bottom of the ocean because you can't find a shiny rock is a miserable way to go.
You can easily fill your pockets with basic titanium and copper right outside your Lifepod, but silver is a totally different story. The game hides this crucial material outside the immediate starting biome, and you desperately need it to craft the Standard Air Tank and essential electronics like the Wiring Kit. Before you waste hours swimming in circles until your lungs give out, I mapped out the exact locations you need to visit to get your first massive haul.
The Secret Early Game Silver Cave
When you start out, you can only break small and medium ore nodes by hand. You need to find a location dense with these breakable chunks.
I found a massive underwater cave system holding over 100 pieces of silver, and it sits just 200 meters north of your Lifepod. To find the entrance, swim north past the open area containing a Coral Dome sitting on top of a pillar. Keep pushing forward until you spot some ruined colony wreckage.
Look for the Angel Comb near Anita's blackbox signal. If you already followed my Subnautica 2 Food and Water guide, you know exactly where this is. Just north of that spot, look down for an opening in the ocean floor beneath a rocky overhang with Jelly Lei dangling from it. The entrance is lined with glowing blue flowers. Dive in and start grabbing everything you see. Small nodes give you one piece of silver, while medium ones drop three. There is even a hidden habitat tucked inside this cave where you can safely refill your oxygen while you mine.
Late Game Farming with the Sonic Resonator
Once you progress a bit further, you will start running into massive silver boulders that you physically cannot break by hand.
To crack these open, you need a Sonic Resonator. This is the exact same specialized tool you use to blast away Bloom Infestations, which I detailed in my Subnautica 2 Heat Tolerance guide. Once you have the Resonator equipped, point it at a large node, hold down your trigger to charge it, and release to instantly shatter the rock and claim five pieces of silver.
The Three-Fingered Pillar Route
When you are equipped to break the big rocks, you need to head 200 meters southeast of your Lifepod into the rocky biome. Swim past the Welcome Center ruins until you see massive stone pillars rising out of the water.
Look for the largest pillar that breaks the ocean surface like a three-fingered hand. I run a very specific farming route around this landmark:
Swim straight down to the base of the hand pillar for your first large node.
Check the ocean floor on the west side of this same pillar for a second node.
Swim southwest to the next medium-sized pillar to find a third node at the bottom.
Drop down the cliff edge heading southwest to find two more large nodes sitting near some wreckage.
Check the large pillar on the complete opposite side of that wreckage for a final node halfway up the rock face.
Silver Crafting Requirements
You are going to burn through this material incredibly fast. Almost every major technological leap requires it. Before you head back to base, here is exactly what you need to budget your silver for.
