The Desert Statue Mystery Is Likely Solved, And It’s The 'Baldur’s Gate 3' Devs Coming Home

For the last week, we have been staring at a pile of bones in the Mojave Desert, trying to figure out if it was Diablo, KOTOR, or a new FromSoftware game.

TGA Statue Leak: New Trademark Links Mystery Game To Divinity Franchise

It turns out we were all wrong. The answer appears to be the return of the king of CRPGs.

According to a new report from MP1st, the mystery statue is directly linked to Larian Studios and the Divinity franchise.

This discovery comes from a set of fresh European trademarks filed today. They include a modernized Divinity logo and two icons. One of those icons is practically identical to the glowing symbol etched onto the desert statue.

The Smoking Gun

The visual evidence is hard to ignore. The trademarked icon features a specific, jagged shape that overlays perfectly onto the statue's glowing rune.

Unless this is a cosmic coincidence, it confirms that Larian is gearing up for a massive reveal. We know the studio has been working on a project codenamed "Excalibur" since wrapping up Baldur's Gate 3. While Sven Vincke said they were moving away from D&D, returning to their own IP makes perfect sense.

The statue's design also hints at deep Divinity lore. The demonic/skeletal look aligns with the Black Ring faction, specifically the God King. If you look at the character's design in Original Sin 2, the lower half matches the statue's aesthetic surprisingly well.

The "Niche" Comment

This leak also explains the cryptic comments from insiders.

Recently, insider Shinobi602 remarked that the reveal "can't please everyone" but that fans of the specific studio and genre will love it.

If this was a new God of War or Elden Ring, it would please everyone. But a dense, tactical CRPG? That is a specific flavor. Even after the success of Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity remains a crunchier, more complex beast. It fits the "specialized" description perfectly.

Is It 'Original Sin 3'?

The updated font in the trademark suggests this is a new title, not just a remaster. While a current-gen port of Divinity: Original Sin 2 has been rumored (and spotted with a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" tag), you don't build a statue in the desert for a port.

You build a statue for a sequel.

If Larian is truly announcing Divinity: Original Sin 3 on Thursday, The Game Awards just got its headliner. After Baldur's Gate 3 swept the awards last year, seeing Larian return to the stage to unveil their next masterpiece feels like poetry.

We will know for sure on December 11th, but right now, my money is on Larian.
