Report: Creative Assembly Will Reveal A Sci-Fi 'Total War' At The Game Awards
Okay, somebody check on the Creative Assembly staff. Are they sleeping? Do they need water? Because it looks like they are trying to release their entire backlog of "dream games" in a single month.
We are still reeling from the announcement of Total War: Medieval 3 earlier today (yes, it’s real, stop pinching yourself). But according to a new report from Gematsu, the studio isn't done.
The report claims that the "Next Major Total War Game" will be officially revealed at The Game Awards on December 11th.
Since we already have Medieval 3 confirmed as the historical pillar, this TGA announcement is almost certainly the long-rumored Sci-Fi entry. The only question left is: Which flavor of space fascism are we getting?
The Case For Star Wars
The rumors of a Total War: Star Wars game have been circulating since DualShockers dropped a report back in 2024. It makes too much sense.
The Combat: Large-scale battles with droids, clones, and AT-ATs fit the engine perfectly.
The Map: Empire at War proved that a galactic conquest map works.
The Money: Disney loves licensing, and Total War: Warhammer proved CA can handle a massive IP without ruining it.
Imagine a campaign map where you move fleets from Tatooine to Coruscant, engaging in ground battles that look like the Battle of Geonosis. It is a license to print money.
The Case For Warhammer 40k
The other heavyweight contender is Total War: Warhammer 40,000.
We know CA has a great relationship with Games Workshop. We know Warhammer 3 just got its "End Times" DLC. The natural progression is to jump 40,000 years into the future.
However, 40k is tricky. It is squad-based, cover-heavy warfare. Total War engines are built for blocks of infantry smashing into each other. Star Wars (specifically the Clone Wars era) fits the "line infantry" style of Total War much better than the skirmish tactics of Space Marines.
The "Third" Project
The most interesting detail in the recent leaks is that CA reportedly has three games in the pipe.
Medieval 3 (Historical - Revealed)
Star Wars (Sci-Fi - TGA Reveal?)
Warhammer 40k (The "Experiment")
If this report holds water, next week's Game Awards show is going to be pivotal. Geoff Keighley is going to walk on stage, introduce a "World Premiere," and we are either going to hear a lightsaber ignite or a chainsword rev.
Either way, Creative Assembly is back. After the Hyenas disaster and the Pharaoh stumble, they have clearly decided to stop messing around and give the people exactly what they want.
Tune in on December 11th. And maybe pre-order some popcorn.
