Breaking Up is Hard to Do: How to Ghost Your Guild in Where Winds Meet

If your guild mates have become more of a burden than a blessing, it’s time to learn how to hit the eject button on those social obligations.

I get it. You probably joined a guild because some random sent a blind invite while you were busy trying not to get decapitated, and now you’re stuck listening to their internal drama. Wuxia life is hard enough without being tethered to a sinking ship of players who can't even pay their own maintenance costs. The UI in Where Winds Meet doesn't exactly make it obvious where the "screw you guys, I'm going solo" button is hidden, but I've done the digging so you don't have to deal with the headache.

The Escape Plan: How to Leave Your Current Guild

Finding the exit is a classic case of menu-bloat meeting questionable design choices. You can't just right-click your name and vanish into the night: you have to navigate through layers like you're trying to cancel a gym membership.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Start Menu and head over to the Guilds section.

  2. Click on the Member Roster tab on the left pane.

  3. Look for the yellow "View" pane on the right side of the screen.

  4. At the very bottom, you'll finally see the "Leave Guild" option (keyboard shortcut V).

  5. Select Confirm and enjoy the sudden silence of a guild-free life.

If you are playing on a PlayStation 5, the process is slightly different. You’ll need to press down the Right Stick (R3) to bring up that View menu. It is a fucking pain in the ass if you don't know it's there, but once you find it, you're golden.

The 6-Hour Hangover

Don’t expect to jump straight into a top-tier guild the second you walk out the door. The game slaps you with a six-hour real-time penalty where you are prevented from joining or creating a new guild. It is a mild deterrent compared to the Sect penalties, but it is still enough to ruin your afternoon if you didn't plan your exit strategy ahead of time. Use that time to sit in a digital tavern and reflect on your poor social choices while the timer ticks down.

Scorched Earth: Disbanding Your Own Guild

Sometimes you're the one in charge of the mess and you just want to watch the whole thing burn to the ground. Disbanding is the nuclear option, and it is permanent. It wipes out the treasury, kicks everyone to the curb, and puts a definitive end to the guild’s existence.

How to Disband

Follow the same path as leaving (Guilds, Member Roster, View), but instead of hitting the leave button, you’ll need to press and hold "Disband." The game will ask if you’re sure, and you should probably think about it for a second before you destroy everything your members worked for. Once you confirm, the treasury is destroyed and you are once again a lone wanderer.

The Maintenance Death Spiral

If you are feeling lazy, you could always just let the guild die on its own. Every guild has a maintenance cost that scales as the guild level increases. If your members aren't actively participating or contributing enough to the upkeep, the game will eventually step in and automatically disband the whole thing for you. It is the coward’s way out, but if nobody is doing the work, it is going to happen sooner or later anyway.
