Windrose Boar Companion Guide: How to Unlock Truffle
Fighting through the Foothills solo means getting surrounded by Alpha Wolves more often than not.
Kiting and parrying gets a run through most fights, but having something else drawing aggro changes the entire flow of combat. Windrose hides exactly that behind Truffle, a legendary armored boar with a whistle attached to a puzzle that isn't marked on the map in any obvious way.
Finding the Ancient Village
Procedural generation means there's no fixed coordinate to hand over here, the location shifts between world instances. The marker to look for on the map is a Wheat Field icon showing a 0/1 completion count specifically. Wheat Field icons already sitting at 3/4 or higher are standard cleared farms and won't lead anywhere useful, so those are worth skipping entirely.
Solving the Altar
The Ancient Altar sits at the top of the main staircase, at the foot of a statue. Interacting with it lays out two offerings needed before it gives anything back: 20 Pieces of Meat and 3 Vessels of Ritual Oil.
Farming the Meat
Hunting the local wildlife directly works, but there's a faster route sitting right there in the AI. The village is thick with aggressive Wolves and Goats, and sprinting a Wolf pack straight into a Goat herd sets both factions against each other automatically. Waiting out the fight and looting the corpses afterward covers the meat requirement without spending a single hit of stamina on it. Anyone planning to keep a steady meat supply going long term might find the merchant contract system worth setting up once this puzzle's done.
Finding the Ritual Oil
The oil doesn't drop from anything, it's locked inside three Ancient Chests scattered through the ruins surrounding the altar, and each one asks for something different to reach.
The first sits behind a wall of thick vines in the ruined building to the right of the altar, an axe clears the way in a couple of swings. The second requires spotting a broken stone column that functions as a makeshift ramp, sprinting up it opens access to the upper floor where the chest is waiting. The third skips any ramp or door entirely, the only way in is climbing the exterior of the final structure by hand, with the chest tucked in a corner near some herbal containers once inside.
Claiming the Whistle
Submitting both offerings back at the altar triggers a short cutscene and drops the Legendary Boar Whistle straight into inventory. Slotting it onto the hotbar and clicking it summons Truffle on the spot, and the whistle itself has no use limit, just a short cooldown if Truffle gets knocked out mid-fight.
In combat, Truffle hits hard enough with Strength-based attacks to chew through an enemy's poise fast, and a broken poise bar means a stun window wide enough to reload a musket or squeeze in a heal without getting punished for it. That alone makes him close to mandatory once boss fights start ramping up, the Israel Hands fight in particular is a lot more manageable with something else soaking up spectral aggro.
