007 First Light Guide: Surviving 009's Boat And The Laser Show Challenge
Walking onto a paranoid spy's boat is a fantastic way to get yourself blown up if you do not know exactly where to step.
In "The Past Never Dies" chapter of 007 First Light, you track down 009 to his personal boat. The guy is clearly expecting company because the entire vessel is rigged with explosives and invisible lasers. Before you waste an hour constantly dying and reloading your save on the stairs, you need to understand how his security system actually works. I am going to walk you through safely disarming the tripwires, bypassing the invisible lasers, and completing a tricky side objective along the way.
Disarming The Basic Booby Traps
The first threat you face when boarding the boat is a series of crude but deadly booby traps. These are bright red ropes tied directly to grenades. Walking into the rope results in an instant lethal explosion.
The Safe Approach
Luckily, defusing them is incredibly straightforward once you spot them. Do not try to vault over them or squeeze past the sides. Simply walk directly toward the grenade end of the rope and press the Triangle or Y button when the prompt appears. This disables the explosive entirely. You will encounter several of these on the lower deck, so keep your eyes glued to the floor before you start sprinting around the shipping crates.
Uncovering The Laser Show
As you push further into the boat, the security gets much more sophisticated. The upper levels are protected by lethal laser traps that are completely invisible to the naked eye. If you are trying to clear all the 007 First Light The Past Never Dies challenges, you have to tackle the Laser Show task. This requires you to reveal the lasers using three specific methods.
Prepping Your Loadout
You cannot disable these lasers like the grenade traps. You have to reveal them and then parkour or crouch your way through the gaps. To make them visible, you need the Smoke Pod gadget and either the Laser Strap or the Phone Dart. If you realize you do not have these equipped, do not panic. Simply replay the "Find 009" checkpoint and the game will automatically spawn you with the correct gear.
If you ever get turned around, pop your Q-Lens to highlight nearby environmental objects that can cast debris or water across the beams. Here are the three exact actions you must take to finish the challenge.
Navigating 009's Boat From Start To Finish
Knowing how the traps work is only half the battle. Figuring out the exact route through the boat without triggering a hidden laser is where the real headache starts. Here is the safest path to take from the moment you spawn all the way to Greenway.
Clearing The Lower Deck
Start by disabling the booby trap directly in front of you the second you spawn. Head to the left side of the boat, vault over the railing, and climb further left. You will spot another grenade trap just before the blocked stairs. Disable it. Move into the middle of the boat where you will find two more booby traps attached to the left and right crates. Disarm both of them so you have a safe zone to work with.
Surviving The Upper Deck
Now step onto the blue tarp on the ground and vault over the nearby box. This lets you safely walk up the stairs. Pay attention here because a rogue seagull is going to knock over a plant and reveal a tripmine laser right in front of you. Crouch under it and take a left. Vault over the box of plants, hug the left wall tightly, and vault over the next blue tarp.
Once you are over on the left side, head through the middle area where you can vault over a few more potted plants.
The Final Moving Grid
The final obstacle is on your right between two pots. These lasers actually move up and down, making them incredibly annoying to time correctly. Just be patient, wait for the beams to rise to their highest point, and slip underneath. The path is now totally clear for you to safely enter the boathouse where Greenway is hiding.
