Arc Raiders Turbine Boss Guide: How To Survive And Get The Compressor

Embark Studios looked at the player survival rates and decided what I really needed was a flying fortress that shoots lightning.

A lone survivor in Arc Raiders stands on a rocky shore, looking up at a massive conical machine descending through a foggy, sunlit sky.

The Riven Tides update has transformed Arc Raiders into a completely different beast. You have players wandering around in the open trying to survive the Beachcombing map condition, you have squads frantically hunting for ship models for the Miniature Voyages event, and hovering above all of this chaos is the Turbine. At first glance, this massive flying machine looks almost docile as it slowly drifts across the sky. Do not let the calm exterior fool you. The second you pull the trigger, it turns the immediate area into an absolute meat grinder.

Normally, I would advise just avoiding the giant death machine entirely. Stick to the shadows, loot your scraps, and extract quietly. The problem is that the Avian Alarm project explicitly requires you to hand over a Turbine Compressor to clear the final tier. You are forced to engage this thing if you want to finish your progression board. I have lost an embarrassing amount of gear trying to figure out the optimal way to bring it down. Here is my strategy for destroying the Turbine without losing your sanity.

The Waiting Game

You cannot just drop into a raid and instantly sprint toward a Turbine. The game forces you to sweat it out first.

Surviving Until Re-entry

Turbines are not tied to a specific map condition, but they do have a hard spawn timer. They will only appear after a match has been running for at least fifteen minutes. This is a deliberately cruel design choice. By the fifteen minute mark, you have likely already been in a few firefights. Your ammo reserves are probably dipping, your healing items are depleted, and your backpack is full of loot you really do not want to lose.

You will know exactly when the waiting is over. Look up at the sky. You will hear a massive sonic boom, and the Turbine will tear into the atmosphere like a meteor re-entering orbit. It is a stunning visual spectacle that immediately floods my brain with panic because I know the extraction clock is ticking. You have to navigate across the map to its location, fight it, and extract before the raid timer runs out.

Understanding The Defenses

If you start shooting at the Turbine while it is happily floating in the air, you are just wasting your ammunition and signing your own death warrant.

Surviving The Barrage

The armor plating on this machine is practically impenetrable while it is airborne. Dumping magazines into its hull does nothing but anger it. Once aggroed in the air, the Turbine deploys a horrific arsenal of defensive systems.

First, it drops a massive perimeter of proximity mines. If you try to sprint directly underneath it for cover, you will get blown to pieces before you even look up. Next, it utilizes airborne missiles that call down targeted lightning strikes. This forces you to constantly stay on the move. Finally, it fires homing missiles that track your movement. Dodging homing projectiles in a game with stamina management is incredibly frustrating. I have watched entire squads wipe because they burned all their stamina running from lightning, only to catch a homing missile to the chest.

You have to find hard cover immediately. Stay out of the mine perimeter, put a thick piece of concrete or a cliff face between you and the missile trajectories, and hold your fire.

How To Destroy The Turbine

Patience is the only weapon that works during the first phase of this encounter. You have to let the machine make itself vulnerable.

Striking The Core

Eventually, the Turbine will stop moving and descend. It plants three massive mechanical legs onto the ground. This is your window. Once it lands, the heavy armor plating around its core retracts. This exposes three rapidly spinning yellow canisters. Those canisters are the critical weak points.

You need to coordinate your damage output the second those yellow cylinders appear. I highly recommend equipping Hullcrackers if you have them. These weapons are designed specifically to shred machine weak points, and they make surprisingly short work of the core if you land your shots. If you are using standard assault rifles or SMGs, it will take significantly longer, exposing you to counterattacks.

Empty everything you have into the spinning canisters. If you do not destroy it in a single landing phase, it will close up and take to the skies again, forcing you to survive another barrage of lightning and missiles until it decides to land a second time.

Turbine Encounter Breakdown

A quick reference guide for surviving the attack patterns and exploiting the vulnerabilities of the Turbine.

Phase / Mechanic My Tactical Advice
Airborne Phase Invulnerable to standard fire. Do not shoot. Find hard cover and wait.
Proximity Mines Deployed in a wide circle around the boss. Never sprint blindly into the combat zone.
Homing Missiles Use terrain to break line of sight. Dodging in the open drains too much stamina.
Landed Phase Core opens. Shoot the three yellow spinning canisters. Use Hullcrackers for maximum burst damage.

Extracting The Compressor

Watching that massive chunk of metal finally explode and hit the dirt is incredibly satisfying. But the fight is not actually over when the boss dies.

The Final Sprint

When the Turbine is destroyed, you can finally loot the wreckage and claim the Turbine Compressor. Grab it immediately. Do not stand around organizing your inventory.

Because the Turbine drops out of the sky like a flaming meteor, every single player on the map knows exactly where it landed. They also heard the massive firefight that just took place. This means that while you were burning all your ammo and medical supplies fighting the boss, rival squads were quietly moving into position around the perimeter.

They are waiting for you to do the hard work so they can shoot you in the back and steal the compressor. Treat the crash site like a hot zone. Pick up your loot, deploy smoke grenades if you have them, and immediately rotate out toward the nearest extraction point. Avoid engaging other players if possible. Your only goal right now is keeping that compressor safe so you can finally clear that punishing project requirement.
