Crimson Desert Duels Guide: How to Bankrupt Pywel's Fighting Pits

Tearing through a hundred nameless bandits is mindless fun, but the local one on one duel tournaments will brutally expose your worst combat habits.

The combat system in this game heavily favors chaotic crowd control. You get used to swinging wildly into groups of enemies and relying on area of effect damage to survive. Duels strip all of that away. These are isolated, strictly regulated minigames that force you to actually learn the underlying mechanics of specific weapons. If you walk into an arena expecting to just spam your heavy attack, you are going to get disqualified and lose your silver. I spent an embarrassing amount of time getting suplexed into the dirt before I figured out how to rig these fights in my favor. Here is exactly how to navigate the tournament rules, summon the local champions, and clear out every fighting pit on the continent.

The Universal Rules of the Pit

Before you start picking fights, you need to understand the rigid legal framework governing these events. You cannot just use whatever you want to win.

If you enter an unarmed brawl and accidentally trigger an Axiom Power, you forfeit instantly. If you pull a sword during a spear match, you are disqualified. Stepping out of the designated competition boundary for too long also results in an immediate loss. Every single event requires a buy-in fee. If you win, you get your money back with a profit. If you get disqualified for sloppy button inputs, the house keeps your copper. If your wallet is currently empty, take a quick detour and read my money farming guide to bankroll your arena career.

The ultimate goal of every pit is to dethrone the local champion. Champions do not just stand around waiting for you. You have to force them out of hiding by winning the standard event three times in a row. Once you hit a three win streak, the champion enters the pool of randomly selected opponents. You might fight them in the very next round, or it might take five more attempts. Defeating a champion permanently closes that specific event. You take your unique prize, the crowd goes home, and you can never participate in that specific venue again.

The Unarmed Brawls

Getting into a fistfight sounds simple until you realize you cannot use leg sweeps, kicks, or body slams. It is purely a boxing match.

Unarmed Duel Intel

The bare minimum stats you need to know before stepping into the ring.

Goldenfist Arena 30 Copper Trophy: Unarmed Duel Champion Defeated

The biggest secret to the unarmed duel is that your defensive stats still matter. You wear the exact same plate mail into the boxing ring that you wear to fight mountain trolls. If you are taking massive damage from a single punch, you need to visit the blacksmith. Read my weapon and armor upgrades guide to ensure your defensive rating is maxed out before you step into the Goldenfist Arena.

During the actual fight, click the lock on button immediately. Keeping Kliff centered on the opponent prevents you from swinging at empty air. When the enemy winds up for a punch, sidestep to the left or right. Dodging backward is a terrible habit that usually leaves you perfectly aligned to catch the second hit of their combo. If you completely mistime your dodge, hold your block button to absorb the punishment.

The Spear Duels

Spear fights take place in a massive rectangular arena, giving you plenty of room to exploit the long reach of your weapon.

Unlike the unarmed brawls, you actually get to bring your own personal weapon to this event. The challengers are using standard issue garbage. You need to leverage your gear advantage. Completing the House of Spears questline rewards you with the Alfonso Spear, which is a fantastic option for poking holes in the locals.

Aggression is your best friend here. Do not let the opponent start a long combo string. Hit them first, maintain the pressure, and force them toward the edge of the boundary. When you run out of space, sprint back to the dead center of the ring and let them walk toward you. If they manage to close the distance, always dodge forward to slip past their sweeping attacks. If your evasion skills feel sluggish, review my best early skills guide to ensure you have the proper dodge upgrades unlocked.

The Wrestling Matches

This is arguably the most entertaining minigame in Pywel. You get to perform absurd, physics defying suplexes on strangers for money.

Wrestling Match Intel

The high stakes grappling arena requirements.

Kharonso 1 Silver Trophy: Wrestling Match Champion Defeated

Wrestling relies entirely on grapple moves. The game is incredibly strict about your button inputs during these matches. If you hit a sloppy combo or accidentally input a basic strike instead of a grapple, you are disqualified instantly and lose your silver buy-in.

If you are just trying to secure the trophy and end the event, rely on the Lariat and basic throws. They are safe, easy to execute, and highly effective. However, since beating the champion permanently locks you out of the Kharonso wrestling pit, I highly recommend throwing matches on purpose just to play around with the combat engine. Hitting a massive clothesline or a vaulting body slam is hilarious. Take your time and enjoy the violence before you officially retire the champion.

The Shooting Contests

The ranged duels operate on entirely different logic. Instead of fighting a human, you are racing to shoot ten pop up targets before your opponent does.

Shooting Contest Intel

The archery and firearm target shooting venues.

Hernand Town (Firearms) Variable Buy-in Trophy: Shooting Contest Champion Defeated

These events are locked to specific characters. Kliff handles the traditional archery contest at Lioncrest Manor, while Damiane tackles the firearms shooting contest in Hernand. If you have not progressed far enough into the story to access the gunner, check out my breakdown on unlocking Damiane and Oongka to see when she becomes available.

The computer opponents in these contests have godlike reflexes. To even the odds, you have to manipulate the game settings. Open your options menu and crank your camera speed and camera acceleration to the absolute maximum. It will feel completely jarring at first, but it is the only way to snap your crosshair between targets fast enough to win.

You cannot cheat by using abilities like Focused Shot. It is purely a test of raw aim. After you shoot a target, immediately snap your crosshair back to the dead center of the screen. Targets spawn randomly, and resting in the middle gives you the shortest possible travel distance to the next popup. Just remember to revert your camera settings back to normal after you claim your prize, or exploring the open world will make you violently motion sick.
