Crimson Desert Guide: How To Remove The Annoying Weapon Durability System

Losing your favorite sword to an arbitrary timer is exhausting, but PC players can easily mod this mechanic out of existence.

Crimson Desert does a lot of things right. The combat is punchy and the world is gorgeous. Then you interact with the item durability system. I am not entirely against weapon degradation in games, as it can force you to try new playstyles or adapt on the fly. But the implementation here is just unnecessarily punishing. When an item's durability expires in this game, it does not just dull. It is gone forever. There is no blacksmith waiting in town to hammer out the dents for a handful of silver coins.

You spend hours grinding for top tier Abyss Gear, only to realize you are on a strict timer the moment you equip it. It makes engaging with the combat system feel like a financial risk. I found myself stashing my absolute best equipment in a storage box, relying on basic standard swords because I did not want to waste my legendary drops on a random group of bandits.

If you play on a console, you just have to adapt to the mechanic. But if you are on a PC, you have the power to tweak the rules. The modding community has stepped up, and by using a couple of simple community tools, you can strip the durability stat from your inventory entirely.

Setting Up Your Modding Framework

Before you start downloading files and trying to save your weapons, you need a stable base. Do not just drop random folders into your core game directory. You will likely corrupt your save file and cause a massive headache for yourself.

You need to grab the CD JSON Mod Manager created by a modder named PhorgeForge. This tool acts as a safe bridge between the game itself and any community fixes you want to run. Once you download the zip file, extract its contents into a brand new folder on your desktop.

Open that folder and double click the "mod_manager.exe" file. In most cases, the software automatically detects your game installation. If it struggles to find it, just click the Browse button and point the software directly to the folder where Crimson Desert is installed on your hard drive. Getting this running properly is the first step to exploring my full list of the best must have mods for the game.

Installing The Durability Fix

With your manager ready, you can go get the actual cure for your fragile weapons. Head to NexusMods and download the Infinity Durability For All Items mod created by PLMOST.

Download and extract the file just like you did with the mod manager. Open the CD JSON Mod Manager you left running in the background. The interface is very straightforward. Drag and drop your newly unzipped Infinity Durability folder straight into the Mod Manager window.

Look at the Available tab in the software. You will see the mod sitting there. Click it, then press the green arrow icon to move it over to your Active list. Once it is safely under the Active tab, click the Apply Mods button at the bottom of the screen.

Customizing Your Experience

One of the smartest things about this specific mod is that it is not an all or nothing situation. You can actually customize how it functions depending on what kind of experience you want.

If you enjoy standard weapon degradation but absolutely hate the idea of losing your rarest Abyss Gear forever, you can tweak the internal settings. The mod lets you toggle the infinite durability status on or off for specific item categories. You can protect your endgame loot while leaving your basic weapon and armor upgrades to break naturally. I personally turn it off for everything because I want to swing my sword in peace, but having the option is a great touch.

Confirming The Mod Works

To actually see these changes in the game, you cannot launch Crimson Desert through Steam or your normal desktop shortcut. You must launch the game directly through the JSON Mod Manager.

Load up your current save and open your inventory. Hover your cursor over a piece of Abyss Gear or a weapon that previously had a degrading durability bar. That stat line should be completely missing. If there is no durability number on the item card, the installation was a success.

You are now free to actually use the gear you worked so hard to find without treating every combat encounter like a math problem. If you are looking to push your newfound freedom a bit further, check out my guide on advanced exploits and cheese tactics to make your playthrough even smoother.
