Far Far West Mounts Guide: Stop Walking Everywhere

If you are still sprinting across the haunted desert on foot, we need to have a serious conversation about your travel habits.

Let me be perfectly clear upfront: mounts in Far Far West are entirely cosmetic. They do not give you a secret speed boost over the default sprint, and they will not help you survive a firefight. However, looking good while traveling between objectives is basically a moral obligation in this game. You start with a rusty hunk of metal, but there is an entire stable of high-end mechanical beasts waiting for you.

The game does not just hand these over. Some are relatively cheap, one is locked behind a frustrating series of license exams, and the final tier requires a massive amount of gold grinding. I broke down exactly where to go and what you need to do to fill out your stable.

Where to Equip and Buy Mounts

You cannot swap your mounts while you are out in the field getting shot at. You have to handle all of your vehicle management back at the hub.

When you load into the main lobby, head over to the right side of the area. You are looking for a specific building called the Rootin' Tootin' Shack. This acts as your central garage. You use this shack to purchase new mounts with your hard-earned gold and to actually equip the ones you have unlocked through quests. Always make sure you have your preferred ride actively equipped here before you queue up for your next bounty.

The Complete Mount Unlock List

There are currently six distinct mounts available in the game. I compiled every single one, their rarity, and their exact unlock requirement into the table below.

Mount Name Rarity & Look How to Unlock
Roach Normal. A very standard, bare-bones mechanical horse. Unlocked and equipped by default from the start of the game.
Rodulph Fine. A mechanical reindeer featuring Christmas bulbs and a red nose. Purchase at the Rootin' Tootin' Shack for 1,500 Gold.
Sandy Fine. A rugged mechanical cargo horse. Purchase at the Rootin' Tootin' Shack for 1,500 Gold.
Nyxie Mythic. A blue mechanical horse outfitted with horns and a bull ring. Purchase at the Rootin' Tootin' Shack for 5,000 Gold.
Phantom Legendary. A menacing, skeleton-themed mechanical horse. Purchase at the Rootin' Tootin' Shack for 25,000 Gold.
Flash Mcequine V6 Ultra Turbo Mythic. A highly advanced machine with fire decals on the sides. Complete Otto's "Horsin' Around The Far Far West" questline on the Canyon map.

Surviving Otto's Questline

The Flash Mcequine is the only mount in the game that you actually have to earn through gameplay rather than just swiping your wallet. You have to travel to the Canyon map and speak to Otto to trigger the Horsin’ Around The Far Far West questline. He forces you to pass a three-part rider's license exam consisting of a written test, a riding test, and a parkour challenge. The written test is notoriously tricky, so keep my Far Far West Otto's Rules of the West quiz guide open in another tab to guarantee a perfect score.

Funding the Phantom

Dropping 25,000 gold on the Legendary Phantom mount is going to completely bankrupt you if you are in the early stages of your playthrough. You need to balance buying cosmetics with actually upgrading your weapons and spells.
