Horripilant 100% Achievement Guide: Escaping the Abyss
I threw my sanity into the absolute darkest corners of this idle dungeon crawler to figure out exactly how to 100% the game.
Getting the full completion in Horripilant requires a massive amount of patience. The game features 57 achievements, and while the majority of them will unlock naturally just by letting the game idle, the final stretch requires genuine problem solving. You have to grind out absurd kill counts, decipher vague environmental puzzles, and figure out how to interact with the bizarre characters living in your camp.
The game explains absolutely nothing to you. If you are stuck staring at a rusted pipe or wondering how to use a specific amulet, you are not alone. I threw myself into the meat grinder and figured out the exact triggers for every single achievement. I broke the list down into logical categories so you can systematically check them off.
The Progression and Grind Achievements
These are the trophies you are going to get simply by playing the game, upgrading your gear, and leaving it running in the background.
Gathering and Production
The game tracks your ability to hoard resources. You will unlock Twig Collector, Rock and Stone, and Fancy Metal simply by clicking on the three main resource nodes for the first time.
You also need to hit massive production milestones. Production I, II, and III require your passive material generation to hit 10, 1,000, and 100,000 per second. You will hit these naturally by buying the "Hire" upgrades. Similarly, Click I, II, and III require your manual click value to hit 10, 250, and 2,500 per click. Just keep funneling resources into the click upgrades. Finally, Greater Capacity unlocks the first time you upgrade your storage limit, and Power in Numbers unlocks the first time you buy a material multiplier level.
The Combat Grind
You earn Self Defense the very first time you kill an enemy. From there, you are on a massive, idle killing spree. You get tier achievements for hitting 100, 1,000, 25,000, 50,000, 75,000, and finally 100,000 total kills for Blood Lust VI.
You also need to unlock Full Beastiary, which pops when you kill every single enemy type in the game at least once. This will happen naturally as you push into the deeper floors.
The Rebirth Milestones
You will hit a wall eventually and need to prestige. Rebirthing for the first time grants the Become Anew achievement. As you dive deeper into the dungeon, you earn Hemalith currency. You get achievements for accumulating 10, 100, 1,000, 5,000, and finally 10,000 total Hemalith for Bloody Power V.
You spend this currency in the Rebirth skill tree. Buying at least one level of every available skill unlocks Jack of All Trades, while maxing out any skill (that has a hard cap) unlocks Skill Expertise.
The Hemalith Exchanges
Later in the game, you will find a Hemalith trader NPC in the camp (this is the exact same trader you will need later for the rusted pipe puzzle). If you trade your standard materials to him for a permanent Hemalith boost, you unlock Blood Thirsty. If you trade your Hemalith to him for a temporary strength buff to push a specific floor, you unlock Temporary Boost.
The Familiar and Camp Achievements
You are not alone in the dark. Managing the creatures in your camp is tied to several specific achievements.
Managing Your Pets
You unlock Oh, a friend! the moment you purchase your first familiar using meat. If you buy every single type of familiar available, you will eventually unlock Pet Sitter.
You also need to be a terrible pet owner. If you let your familiar absorb too much damage and die during combat, you unlock K.I.A.
The Cryptic Puzzles and Hidden Gates
This is where the game stops holding your hand entirely. You have to decipher environmental clues to unlock the hidden progression achievements.
Reaching Floor 1000 and God
Meet god. is unmissable. You will naturally encounter him at the bottom of the first major descent. The ultimate endurance test is the Now what? achievement, which requires you to grind all the way down to Floor 1000.
There is also a highly specific challenge run achievement. Naturally Skilled requires you to reach Floor 10 on a brand new save without dying and without using the Rebirth mechanic. Be warned: Floors 6 through 10 are a massive progression wall. Without Rebirth multipliers, this will take an absolutely absurd amount of real-world time as you wait for raw passive generation to scale your stats.
The "Nice Try." Amulet Puzzle
A lot of players get stuck on the Nice try. achievement. You will eventually buy a skull amulet from the equipment shelf that acts as an insta-kill item. You might think you need to use this during the actual boss fight with God. If you try that, the game tells you the amulet is powerless.
To actually get the achievement, you need to walk over to the camp room containing "The Hole" (where the strange guy is hanging out inside). Open your inventory and try to use the insta-kill amulet on the guy in the hole. It will not work, but it pops the achievement.
The Water and Blood Puzzle
To progress the deeper secrets, you have to solve a multi-step puzzle to kill the wandering ghost entity, which unlocks the No Longer in Limbo achievement.
First, you will find a lever. Take this lever to the room with the Hemalith trader and insert it into the semicircular socket on the wall. Pulling it activates the Rusted Pipes achievement and allows water to flow into the adjacent room.
Next, you need blood. Buy a cheap familiar using your meat currency. Walk into the room next to the ghost and impale the familiar on the spike (triggering the "Oh... oh no..." achievement mentioned earlier). The blood will mix with the flowing water. Finally, buy the skull amulet from the top equipment shelf. Walk into the room with the ghost while the bloody water is flowing, and use the amulet to put the entity to rest. As a bonus, the code left behind by the ghost is extremely blurry, but do not panic, it automatically gets written down in your journal/paper for later use.
The Hidden Gates and Door Codes
As you explore the camp and decipher the engraving stones, you will find various codes that open locked doors. Inputting these specific codes unlocks a direct chain of hidden achievements.
You will unlock I hear crumbling... (Code 1), A gate opens... (Code 2), Another gate.. (Code 3), Yet another gate... (Code 4), A door opens. (Code 5), Another opening... (Code 6), and finally The Final Gate (Code 7) once you meet both hidden requirements for the last door.
Opening these paths and progressing through the map will naturally grant you the environmental exploration achievements: A set of doors., Another Plane, Slotted In, No longer blind., The Angels Sing Again, and The Final Passage.
Finally, passing the spider web trap by clicking the web, holding your mouse button down, and violently shaking your cursor back and forth unlocks Cold-blooded. Making the ultimate choice at the very end of the game grants the final Made your choice. achievement.
