Hytale Animals Guide: How to Capture, Bribe, and Build a Farm That Actually Works
Hytale’s world is crawling with creatures that either want to be your dinner, your best friend, or your primary cause of death.
Look, I’ve spent way too much time chasing pixelated chickens in various block-based games, but Hytale is a different beast entirely. It’s not just about hitting things with a sword for leather; it’s about managing a world that actually feels alive. If you want a fast horse or just enough eggs to bake a cake without getting mauled by a grizzly, you need to understand the mechanics before you waste your resources on a farm that can't actually hold a goat.
The Taming and Breeding Reality Check
If you were hoping to start a massive animal breeding program on day one, I have some bad news for your digital livestock dreams. The developers are currently focusing on the "core game," which is usually corporate speak for "we didn't finish the fun stuff yet".
Why You Can’t Build a Zoo (Yet)
Right now, you cannot actually breed animals in Hytale, though the feature is in planning. You can’t feed them specialized snacks to make them reproduce. Similarly, permanent taming is a myth in the current Early Access build. You can ride a horse, but it won’t follow you around like a loyal dog; if you dismount and walk away, it’ll probably wander off to find someone less boring. Taming right now just means "calming things down so they stop running away".
Building the Farm (Without the Escapes)
Building a farm is more than just throwing some wood in a circle. Hytale has a predator and prey system, meaning if a wolf gets into your chicken coop, you’re going to find nothing but feathers and regret the next morning.
Fencing and Safety Protocols
Animals don’t need food or water to survive in their pens, which is a relief because I can barely remember to feed myself. The most important thing is height. Small animals like chickens and pigs can be held in by a one-block-high fence. If you are keeping horses or larger beasts, you need a two-block-high fence. Predators can vault over single blocks, and horses are surprisingly good at jumping when they want to escape.
The Master Hytale Animal & Loot Table
Knowing how an animal will react to you is the difference between a successful hunt and a trip back to your spawn point. Passive animals don't care if you exist until you hit them, while Hostile mobs will charge you the moment they see the exclamation mark over their heads.
