Marvel Rivals Guide: Solving the Death of Gambit Mystery the Easy Way
The Season 9 mystery event is wrapping up its individual cases, and finding the culprit behind Gambit's demise opens up the final puzzle.
How the Gambit Investigation Works
The game lays out this mystery as a gallery card covered in small sparkle icons within the event menu. Tapping or clicking on each sparkle lets you listen to a brief chat between heroes. These conversations highlight specific key words that serve as your clues. I like to just click through them casually while waiting in a queue.
Once you have all the highlighted words, you head over to the main investigation page. You'll find a text block filled with blanks and a list of three suspects. Solving it means dragging those clue words into the correct slots to piece the story back together.
Dealing with the Answer Feedback
If you submit your layout and something is wrong, the game lets you know a mistake was made, but it won't point out the exact incorrect word. You have to check your placements yourself. Luckily, there isn't any penalty for guessing wrong, so you can test combinations as much as you want without losing anything. If you want to bypass that trial and error entirely, knowing the direct solution makes the process much smoother.
The Correct Solution and Culprit
The true culprit behind this case is Parker Robbins, who goes by the name The Hood. He was searching for an artifact called the Tablet of Death and Entropy. Gambit was hunting for the exact same tablet, so The Hood took him out to get rid of the competition. Matching the words to tell this story will successfully close out the case.
Getting this done gives a nice bit of early background context because The Hood is officially joining the roster in Season 9.5. It's a great way to learn where he fits into the narrative before you actually get to pick him in a match.
Sorting Out the Red Herrings
You might notice a clue about a spear-like attack that leaves behind Phoenix Force energy. This detail looks like it points straight at Black Panther at first, but that lead quickly goes cold. The game uses it to set up the bigger picture instead. Apocalypse's own body has that same Phoenix Force energy, which becomes the main focus once you wrap up this part.
Unlocking the Final Showdown
Finishing the Gambit case marks the end of the three smaller character puzzles. If you already took care of Wolverine and Psylocke, finishing this third step grants access to the final stage of the event. That's where you get to pull all the threads together and name the person who actually took down Apocalypse.
