How to Clear the Map Fog in Neverness to Everness Before You Lose Your Mind
Staring at a massive gray void on your screen is a surefire way to get yourself lost in Hethereau.
You drop into Neverness to Everness and immediately notice that the sprawling city map is completely useless. Hethereau is shrouded in a thick fog of war right from the start. If you want to actually see where you are going, you have to put in a little legwork. Before you waste hours driving your painfully slow starter vehicle into dead ends, you need to prioritize revealing the streets. I spent my first few hours ignoring this mechanic and paid the price.
To get your bearings, you need to track down specific landmarks scattered across the urban sprawl. Once you do, navigating the city goes from a frustrating chore to an absolute breeze.
Hunting Down the Wertheimer Towers
The only way to strip away the fog of war and reveal the full city layout is by finding and activating structures called Wertheimer Towers. You will find these tall spires planted in key locations across the map. Thankfully, the developers did not completely blindfold you. Even with the map covered in a gray haze, you can still spot the icons for these towers bleeding through the fog.
Spotting the Map Icons
Open your map and scan the grayed out areas. You are looking for a very specific symbol depicting a white spire resting inside a circular border. Pinning these icons the moment you open your map will save you an incredible amount of wandering.
The Five Major Districts
There are exactly five of these towers scattered throughout Hethereau. Each one corresponds to a major district. Unlocking a tower clears the fog for that specific chunk of the city. If you want to see every street corner and alleyway in full detail, you have to tag all five locations.
The Activation Process
Once you physically reach a Wertheimer Tower, simply staring at it will not do anything. You actually have to trigger the mechanism at the base to push back the fog.
The Golden Triangle
Approach the base of the massive spire and look for a specific visual prompt. At the bottom, you will spot a golden triangle resting inside concentric white circles. Walk right up to this triangle and interact with it. Doing so triggers the activation sequence, which permanently removes the map fog for that entire region.
Commission Hubs
These towers are not just glorified streetlights. Once activated, they serve a massive dual purpose. First, they become permanent fast travel points. Second, they act as Anomaly Commission hubs for their respective regions. You will constantly bounce between these locations as you progress.
Expanding Your Fast Travel Network
Relying entirely on the five main towers will still leave you with a lot of ground to cover on foot. You need to expand your teleportation options if you want to optimize your playtime.
Mapping the ReroRero Phone Booths
While the main towers are your primary goal, you should also keep an eye out for ReroRero Phone Booths. Just like the larger spires, you can see the icons for these phone booths through the map fog before you even reach them. These function as additional teleport points to help you zip around the various districts.
Activating all the towers and every phone booth you pass should be your absolute first priority in the game. Do this before you even think about engaging with heavy combat or worrying about my Neverness to Everness character tier list. Having an optimized combat party means absolutely nothing if it takes you twenty minutes just to drive them to the fight. If you plan on tracking down extra content, reading through a Neverness to Everness all side quests guide is significantly easier when you have these travel nodes unlocked.
Stop Driving the Rover A1
Before you set off on your grand cross-city road trip to tag all five towers, you desperately need to address your vehicle situation.
The Default Scooter Trap
You start the game with a default scooter called the Rover A1. I am going to be blunt. It is painfully slow. Taking the Rover A1 from one end of Hethereau to the other will test your patience and likely get you stuck in traffic you could otherwise avoid.
Upgrading to the C2000
I highly recommend upgrading your ride before you start hunting towers in earnest. Save up 50,000 Fons and purchase the C2000. It offers more than triple the speed of your starter scooter, making the journey between the Unheard Shores and the Miguel District significantly less painful. If you are curious about what other rides you can buy with your hard earned cash, my Neverness to Everness vehicles guide breaks down your options. Trust me, buying a real car is the best investment you will make during your early hours in the city.
