Crimson Desert Guide: How To Farm Large Animal Bones Fast
Hitting a progression wall because you are missing a single crafting material is annoying, but realizing the game refuses to tell you where to find it is infuriating.
Upgrading your leather armor and accessories in Crimson Desert feels incredibly rewarding until you hit the mid game. Suddenly, the blacksmith starts demanding Large Animal Bone for every single refinement. You cannot buy it from a merchant, you cannot loot it from chests, and you will not find it lying around bandit camps. If you want to keep your weapon and armor upgrades on track, you are forced into the wilderness to hunt.
The problem is that the hunting system operates on a very strict, unspoken rule: the size of the animal determines the drop. Now before you spent an embarrassing amount of time slaughtering foxes and rabbits, assuming the drops are completely randomized. They are not. Small animals drop Small Bones. Large animals drop Large Animal Bones. If you do not target the correct wildlife, you are wasting your time.
I am going to save you the headache of running around the map aimlessly. Here are the exact animals you need to hunt and the absolute fastest routes to farm them.
The Skinning Rule
Before we get into the routes, you have to understand the core mechanic. Killing the animal does absolutely nothing for your inventory. The loot does not magically teleport into your pockets.
Once the animal hits the ground, you must walk up to the carcass and press the designated interact button to physically skin it. If you kill a bear and walk away, you get nothing. Make sure you have checked my resource gathering guide so your carrying capacity is optimized, because you are going to be harvesting a lot of heavy materials.
The Ultimate Late Game Farming Loop
If you have unlocked the northern reaches of the map, you can completely remove the miserable RNG from your farming process.
You need to head to the northern area of the Crimson Desert region specifically to hunt elephants. Elephants are massive targets, and more importantly, they are confirmed to have a guaranteed drop rate for Large Animal Bone. Every single kill is a payout.
The Elephant Rotation
Do not just kill one elephant and stand around waiting for it to respawn. That is incredibly inefficient. You need to establish a rotation. Move through the northern zone, locate an elephant, take it down, and skin it immediately. Then, hop on your mount and ride to the next known spawn point nearby.
You can also integrate rhinos into this loop. There is a cluster of them that spawn right next to the Abyss Nexus fast-travel point in the north. Their spawns are fixed, making them incredibly reliable. Hit the rhinos, ride to the elephants, and by the time you cycle back, the rhinos should be respawning.
Early Game Farming Options
If you are just starting out and have not pushed deep enough into the map to find elephants, you have to rely on more aggressive targets.
The Bear Threat
Your best option before unlocking Pailune is hunting bears. The Hernand Highlands is the primary hotspot, with the Mistwind Stepped Hillside serving as a solid secondary location.
I need to warn you: bears are not passive targets. They are highly aggressive and deal massive damage. If you walk into the Hernand Highlands with unupgraded gear and start a fight, a bear will absolutely maul you to death. You need to approach them carefully, dodge their heavy swipes, and ensure you have plenty of healing items and cooking recipes ready.
The Safe Moose Grind
Once you finally unlock the Pailune region, I highly recommend abandoning the bears entirely. Head into the mountain ranges and start hunting moose. Moose are incredibly common in Pailune, and unlike bears, they will not actively try to rip your face off. It is a much safer, more consistent grind. Boars are also an option if you are exploring the forest zones, but their spawn density is usually too scattered to build a highly efficient, focused farming loop around them. Stick to the moose until you can reach the elephants.
