Diablo 4 Guide: How to Get Anathema of the Primes Without Wasting Your Weekend

Before you burn your precious free time grinding the wrong bosses, let me show you the fastest ways to secure the Anathema of the Primes for your Warlock.

If you work six days a week, have kids to manage, and just want your Warlock to fill the screen with pretty explosions, grinding out the new Lord of Hatred expansion shouldn't feel like a second job. You want to get your build rolling as soon as possible. I spent hours mapping out the most efficient routes for this specific Unique 2H Sword so you don't have to guess where your next upgrade is coming from. The game gives you a few different avenues to grab it, ranging from targeted boss farming to a guaranteed crafting shortcut that respects your time.

If you are still figuring out where your class sits in the current meta before committing resources, check out my Diablo 4 Season 13 Tier List. Otherwise, grab your favorite farming build, make sure your inventory is clear, and let me break down exactly how you can get this weapon into your hands tonight.

The Target Farming Method: Andariel

The most direct and intended path to this blade is through target farming. If you are playing as a Warlock, the Anathema of the Primes drops directly from Andariel over at Hanged Man's Hall.

Securing Greater Lair Keys

To actually open Andariel's treasure hoard, you need a Greater Lair Key. You cannot just walk into her arena and expect loot. You have to earn these keys by opening the hoards of lesser Lair Bosses first. You will need to spend time farming Lord Zir, Grigoire, and the Beast in Ice to build up a stockpile of keys before you even look in Andariel's direction.

Pushing Torment Levels

Greater Lair Keys are notoriously rare drops. If you want to speed up your acquisition rate, you need to push your difficulty up to Torment 6. They will start dropping slightly more frequently at this tier. The general rule of thumb is that the higher your Torment level, the better your chances of seeing a key drop. Just make sure your current build can actually survive the higher difficulty, or you will spend more time running back from the spawn point than actually farming.

The Horadric Cube Shortcut

If your luck is atrocious or you simply refuse to run another lesser Lair boss just to get a key, you can bypass the Andariel grind entirely. You can use the Horadric Cube to force the item to drop, which is the absolute fastest method if you are starved for time.

The Transmutation Recipe

You can upgrade a Common 2H Sword into a guaranteed Anathema of the Primes by taking it to the Horadric Cube and utilizing the Upgrade function. This removes the RNG entirely. To execute this craft, you need the Common sword, one Enhanced Primordial Dust, and some Raw Primordial Dust.

Sourcing the Materials

Raw Primordial Dust is incredibly easy to source and drops from practically everywhere in the game. Enhanced Primordial Dust is somewhat rare, so you will need to keep an eye out for it during your regular activities. As for the Common 2H Sword, your best bet is to gamble with the Purveyor of Curiosity. Take your Murmuring Obols to the vendor and buy the base weapon types. You will easily snag a common variant, and if you get extremely lucky, the Purveyor might just drop the Anathema of the Primes directly into your inventory.

Anathema of the Primes Stats and Mechanics

You went through all this effort to get the sword, so you should probably know exactly why it is so overpowered. This weapon completely redefines how the Warlock operates in the endgame and opens up some ridiculous build paths.

Item Detail Description
Weapon Type Unique 2H Sword (Warlock Class Only)
Unique Effect Part 1 Hitting enemies with a Core Skill increases the damage they take from you by 30% per Skill, capping at 90%.
Unique Effect Part 2 Archfiend Demonform Skill Variants are converted to Core Skills and cost Wrath instead of Dominance.

Warlock Build Synergies

The fact that your Archfiend Demonform skills now cost Wrath instead of Dominance changes everything. My personal favorite setup is the Demonic Smash Rampage build. You pair this sword with Lurid Pact, a Unique Ring that massively increases your Rampage damage while expanding its area of effect with every enemy you defeat. The playstyle mimics a classic Leap Barbarian, except you are a flaming demon crushing everything in your path. Alternatively, you can run the Sin Demon route utilizing Metamorphosis for a completely different flavor of destruction. While you can technically use this sword with your default Core skills, it is a massive waste of potential since they lack the insane synergies the Demonform variants offer.

Open World Farming Alternatives

Sometimes you just want to turn your brain off and kill hordes of monsters instead of running targeted boss loops or managing your cube resources. If that is your preferred playstyle, you can still find this sword in the wild.

Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons

Unique items drop passively from enemies and chests throughout the open world. Keep an eye on your map for active Helltide events, which spawn every hour. Farm as many Cinders as you can and crack open the chests scattered around the zone. If you want to increase your odds further, run Nightmare Dungeons, jump into Gathering Legions, or take down World Bosses.
