Highguard’s Currency Trap: Gold, Credits, and Tokens Explained
If you’ve spent more than five seconds in the Highguard lobby, you’ve probably noticed a row of shiny icons in the top right corner that look like they belong in a jewelry store.
It is the classic free-to-play special: why have one currency when you can have three to keep the players perpetually confused? Highguard follows the industry standard of making sure you never quite know how much real-world money you’re spending while also dangling just enough "free" stuff to keep you grinding matches. I’ve spent the morning staring at these icons so you don’t have to. Whether you’re a whale ready to drop a paycheck or a "no-money-spent" purist, you need to know which of these symbols actually matters. Here is the dirt on Highguard Gold, Warden Credits, and Vigil Tokens, and why you should never let them hit their hidden storage caps.
The Three Flavors of Highguard Cash
Highguard splits its economy into three distinct buckets. You can't trade them, you can't swap them, and the game is very picky about where you spend them.
Highguard Gold (The Wallet Burner)
This is the gold triangle. It is the only currency that requires you to actually pull out a credit card. Currently, there is zero way to earn this in-game, which is a bit of a middle finger to the community, but hey, it's a "free" game.
What it’s for
If you want the flashy legendary skins or the high-end bundles in the Store, this is your only option. The devs have promised that nothing will cost more than $20, which I guess is their version of "generosity." Use this if you absolutely have to have that one specific Warden skin, but otherwise, keep your wallet closed.
Warden Credits (The Challenge Grind)
The silver square is for the people who actually bother to check their daily and weekly challenges. You earn these by playing, but the "fast" way is to knock out specific tasks in your log.
Watch the Cap
Here is the catch: you can only hold 10,000 Warden Credits at a time. If you hit that limit, the game will happily let you keep playing without giving you a single extra cent. These are spent at the Trading Post, which rotates every week. It’s usually basic recolors or charms, but if you’re at 9,500 credits, just buy something. Don't let the value go to waste.
Vigil Tokens (The Participation Trophy)
The pink diamond is the most straightforward of the bunch. You get these just for existing in a match. The longer the match, the more you get.
The War Chest System
Vigil Tokens are strictly for the War Chests. Think of it like a free-tier battle pass that you buy pieces of individually. Just like the silver credits, these have a hard cap of 3,000 tokens. If you’re sitting on a pile of pink diamonds, go dump them into a War Chest. It’s the only way to get decent cosmetics without spending actual Gold.
