Resident Evil Requiem: Everything You Need to Know About Leon Must Die Forever

Leon Must Die Forever will chew you up and spit you out if you walk into it blindly.

Resident Evil Requiem just dropped a massive free update that transforms the familiar streets of Raccoon City into a punishing roguelite gauntlet. You unlock this mode simply by beating the main campaign. Once you roll the credits, you can access Leon Must Die Forever from the Extra Games menu. This is a complete departure from the calculated survival horror of the base game. You are thrown into a race against the clock where you must clear randomized stages, hoard resources, and upgrade Leon on the fly. The ultimate goal is to fight your way to Level 20 and put a bullet in Victor Gideon. Before you throw yourself into the meat grinder and lose your sanity, I am going to explain exactly how these new systems operate.

The Roguelite Rules of Engagement

You do not get to bring your endgame arsenal into this mode.

You start with the basics and have to build your loadout from scratch during every single run. Every zombie you drop earns you experience points. Once you rack up enough points, you can press a button combination to pull up the Enhancer Ability menu. The game presents you with three random buffs, and you have to choose one. This forces you to adapt your playstyle continuously. You might get a run where your firearms are incredibly weak, but your melee attacks hit like a freight train. You have to roll with the punches. The map is littered with weapon crates that spit out randomized guns, and dead enemies will constantly drop ammunition to keep your magazines full.

You are also fighting a relentless timer. If the clock hits zero, your run ends immediately. To buy yourself more time, you need to hunt down Midas Spinners. These are tiny golden spiders hiding in the corners of each room. Shoot them the second you spot them to inject precious seconds back into your run.

Adapting to the Enemy Variants

The standard infected are dangerous enough, but this mode introduces a few nasty surprises that will send you back to the lobby if you do not understand their gimmicks.

You will encounter zombies glowing with a bright red aura. Bullets are basically useless against them. You have to rely entirely on explosives or physical melee attacks to put them in the dirt. Conversely, you will find enemies radiating a blue aura. These guys are walking tanks until you successfully parry their attacks. Once you deflect their strike with your hatchet, their defenses shatter, and you can unload your firearms into them.

Speaking of your hatchet, the durability mechanics have changed. You can no longer sharpen it manually to keep it in prime condition. You have to find glowing green hatchet drops scattered around the environment to repair it. I highly recommend saving your blade for essential parries against those blue variants rather than wasting it on standard zombie skulls.

Mapping the Raccoon City Route

You navigate between the different stages by locating glowing doors.

The game gives you options, but every choice has consequences. The stages scale in difficulty, meaning the enemies hit harder and soak up more damage the further you go.

Stage Location Difficulty Level Access Route
Main Street Lv. 1 Starting Area
Care Center Rehab Ward Lv. 2 Accessed via Main Street
Care Center Lv. 5 Accessed via Main Street
East Raccoon City Streets Lv. 9 Accessed via Main Street, Care Center, or Rehab Ward
East Raccoon City Central Camp Lv. 9 Accessed via Care Center or Rehab Ward
Blister Borne Lv. 10 Accessed via Streets or Central Camp
The Commander Lv. 11 Accessed via Care Center
Super Tyrant Lv. 12 Accessed via Streets
Victor Lv. 20 Accessed via Central Camp, Streets, Super Tyrant, or Blister Borne

You can technically skip straight from Level 1 to Level 9 and then rush into Level 20. I highly advise against doing that. If you try to fight Victor with starter weapons and no Enhancer Abilities, he will annihilate you in a matter of seconds. Take the long route, gather as much loot as possible, and level up your gear before you knock on his door.

Spending Your Hard Earned Points

As you complete runs and clear specific objectives, you will earn Completionist Points (CP).

If you need help maximizing your point intake, I wrote a comprehensive Leon Must Die Forever Challenges Guide to speed up your farming process. You can spend this currency in the Special Content shop to unlock permanent advantages for your future attempts.

Item Name Cost / Requirement Effect
Hellblaze 25,000 CP Replaces the Hatchet as a random drop. Sets zombies on fire.
RPG-7 35,000 CP Anti-tank weapon that spawns once per run.
Green Herb & Med Injector 1,000 CP & 2,000 CP Adds healing items to your starting inventory automatically.
Case Upgrade (8x13) 10,000 CP Permanently expands your inventory space.
Aurora Spinners 3,000 CP Replaces Midas Spinners to grant even more time upon death.
Unyielding Judge Boost 5,000 CP Enhancer Ability. Massive damage boost and infinite ammo when near death.
Lone Berserker Boost 5,000 CP Enhancer Ability. Massive melee damage boost at the cost of firearm damage.
Phantom Assassin Boost 5,000 CP Enhancer Ability. High firearm damage boost at the cost of melee power.

You can also unlock new accessories by clearing the mode on its scaling difficulty ranks. Beating Rank 1 gives you the Wolf Mode accessory, providing a unique weapon loadout. Clearing Rank 2 hands over the Turbo GT accessory, and Rank 3 rewards you with the Hot Fuzz loadout. If you manage to survive Rank 4, you unlock the ability to swap the cosmetic appearance of these accessories without losing their stats. Finally, clearing Rank 5 grants the Axe-orcist accessory, providing a two-star hatchet right out of the gate.

Buy your Green Herbs early, learn the parry timings, and do not rush to the final boss. Good luck out there.
