Leon Must Die Forever Guide: How to Beat the Brutal Roguelite in Resident Evil Requiem
Leon Must Die Forever functions as a high-stakes psychological endurance test designed to make you regret ever setting foot back in Raccoon City.
The newest free update for Resident Evil Requiem takes the familiar corridors of the main campaign and twists them into a randomized gauntlet. I spent the last few days dying repeatedly so I could map out the mechanics that actually matter. If you treat this like a standard action game, you will find yourself back at the main menu before you even clear Main Street. This mode demands a specific mindset where every bullet is a calculated investment and every door choice determines if you reach Victor Gideon or die in a gutter. Before you attempt to master these systems, you might want to check out my Resident Evil Requiem Speedrun Guide to sharpen your movement and environmental awareness. Once you are ready to face the RNG gods, I have the strategies to help you come out on top.
Pre-Game Preparation and the Special Content Shop
Before you even load into a run, you need to visit the Special Content shop. I see many people jumping into Rank 1 with nothing but a prayer, which is a massive mistake. If you have any leftover Completionist Points (CP) from your main story playthrough, spend them here immediately.
Investing in Survival
Your priority should always be Med Injectors and Green Herbs. These upgrades allow you to start every single run with a small stash of healing items. In a mode where a single mistake can put you six feet under, having an extra injector in your pocket is more valuable than any weapon upgrade. I also recommend looking at the Ability Boosts. While these only activate if you find the corresponding Enhancer during your run, they provide a massive edge when the RNG works in your favor. If you are low on points, I have a complete breakdown of how to farm them in my Leon Must Die Forever Challenges Guide.
Combat Efficiency and Ammo Management
A common complaint I hear is that Leon Must Die Forever feels "impossible" because ammo drops are scarce. I can tell you right now that you are likely wasting shots on the wrong body parts.
The Leg Shot Meta
Zombies in this mode are incredibly durable. Shooting them in the head is a waste of resources unless you are using a high-powered rifle. I have found much more success by aiming exclusively for the legs. One or two pistol shots to the knee will drop a zombie into a stunned state. This opens them up for a physical kick. Not only does the kick deal significant damage, but it also provides crowd control by knocking back nearby enemies. This is the only way to maintain your ammo count during the transition from Main Street to the Care Center.
Hatchet Durability Secrets
Your hatchet is a finite resource in this mode. You cannot repair it manually at a typewriter. I suggest reserving your hatchet exclusively for parries and boss finishers. If you are using it to break crates or kill standard zombies, you are sabotaging your own run. Keep an eye out for the "Parry Recovery" ability in the Enhancer menu. If you can land a perfect parry with this active, it repairs 40% of your hatchet durability. This is a mandatory pickup for anyone planning to survive the Victor boss fight at the end of the game.
Mastering the Route and Level Scaling
The world of Leon Must Die Forever is connected by glowing red doors. These doors allow you to skip certain sections of the game, but I advise against rushing straight to the end. Each stage has a specific difficulty level that scales the health and damage of the infected.
Stage Progression
The scaling in this mode is aggressive. If you skip the middle stages to reach Victor at Level 20 while your gear is still Level 1, you will deal zero meaningful damage. I have outlined the standard progression path below to help you plan your journey.
Dealing with Colored Enemies
You will eventually encounter variants of enemies glowing with red or blue auras. These are the gatekeepers of your run, and they require more than just aim to defeat.
Red Enemies
These foes are almost entirely resistant to standard gunfire. I have seen many people dump three magazines into a Red zombie only to be killed while reloading. You must use grenades or melee finishers to deal any real damage. If you do not have explosives, use the leg-stun-kick combo I mentioned earlier.
Blue Enemies
Blue enemies possess a massive endurance buff that makes them feel like bullet sponges. The trick here is the parry. You need to wait for them to attack and land a parry with your hatchet. This temporarily shatters their defense, allowing you to deal massive damage with your firearms. If you are struggling with the timing, I recommend practicing against the standard zombies in Rank 1 before trying to push into the higher tiers.
The Ability Enhancer System
Your Ability Enhancer is the heart of your build. Every kill contributes 100 points to your meter, allowing you to select one of three randomized perks.
Know When to Refresh
The perks are color-coded: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. While Gold perks are rare, they can completely change the momentum of your run. If the three options presented to you are all useless Bronze tiers, do not feel obligated to pick one. You can spend 20 points to refresh the selection. I often save my points until I have enough for a refresh because a single high-tier perk like "Incendiary Kicks" or "Infinite Hatchet Durability" is worth more than five minor stat boosts.
The Timer and Spinners
The timer at the top of the screen is an intimidation tactic. I have found that if you are exploring efficiently and shooting the golden Midas and Aurora Spinners, the clock rarely becomes an issue. These spiders hide in corners and rafters, but they add significant chunks of time to your run. Do not let the ticking clock force you into making reckless decisions. It is always better to spend ten seconds clearing a room and looting a crate than it is to run blindly into an ambush because you are worried about the time.
Survival in Leon Must Die Forever is a matter of preparation and patience. If you respect the level scaling and focus on resource conservation, you will eventually find yourself standing over Victor's corpse with a pocket full of Completionist Points.
