Subnautica 2 Guide: How to Find and Craft the Sonic Resonator
Staring at a massive boulder of silver you can't break while your oxygen ticks down is infuriating.
When you first start exploring, you can only pick up small resource nodes by hand. You will eventually stumble across massive blocks of ore and cave entrances completely choked by glowing white webs called Bloom Biofilm. You can't punch your way through these. You absolutely need the Sonic Resonator. This tool uses charged soundwaves to shatter large deposits and cleanse viral parasites. The game does not hand it to you, though. You have to hunt down two broken fragments before your database learns the recipe.
Finding the Blueprint Fragments
You need your hand scanner for this. If you don't have one yet, stop and build it immediately.
The Arch Cave Fragment
Start at Anita's Blackbox, which sits right next to the massive purple Angel Comb roughly 150 meters north-northeast of your Lifepod. From that purple flower, swim exactly 110 meters due west. You are looking for a fairly large, arched cave entrance. Swim inside and immediately check the right wall. The first Sonic Resonator fragment is sitting openly on top of a crate.
The Old Habitat Fragment
For the second piece, you need to head north toward the Old Habitat colony ruin (near Wu Lianghai's Blackbox signal). You can't just walk through the front door because all the exterior hatches are locked shut. Dive underneath the structure and look for a massive hole in the floor. Swim up through the floorboards and navigate northwest through the interior corridors. You will find the final Sonic Resonator fragment sitting in the corner of the last room. Once you scan it, you can simply unlatch the hatch from the inside to get out.
Crafting the Tool (and the Base Requirement)
You can't just take your blueprint back to the Lifepod and print the tool. The Lifepod fabricator is severely damaged and simply doesn't have the processing power to build high-end tech.
You must construct a player-owned base and put a brand new, fully functional Base Fabricator inside it. If you haven't done that yet, you need to read my Subnautica 2 Habitat Builder guide to get a roof over your head. You will also need a Processor module to smelt your raw titanium into ingots.

How to Use the Resonator
Operating the tool is simple, but it takes a few seconds to warm up. Equip the Resonator on your hotbar and hold down your right mouse button (or RT on a controller). You will see a meter fill up on either side of your targeting reticle. Keep holding the button until the meter maxes out, aim directly at your target, and release the trigger to fire a massive sonic blast.
If you shoot a large ore deposit, it instantly shatters into multiple pieces of raw material.
Clearing Viral Bloom Infestations
The tool's most important function is clearing the parasitic Bloom Biofilm blocking certain caves and Angel Combs. You are looking for glowing white buds or cankers spreading across the rocks. Fire a fully charged blast directly at the white bud to destroy it. Often, you will have to follow the purple roots of the infection to find multiple buds in a single area. Destroying these cankers kills the aggressive parasite fish darting around the zone and eventually unlocks the Angel Comb they are infecting.
