Windrose Enchanting Guide: How to Craft Plague Weapons

Surviving the Cursed Swamps requires more than just a sharp piece of steel and a good attitude.

A bubbling green herbal concoction in a cracked wooden bowl from the game Windrose, set against a lush, blurred tropical jungle background.

Once you reach the endgame biomes, standard iron and copper are not going to cut it against Level 15 Plague monsters. To actually deal meaningful damage, you have to interact with the game's Enchanting system. While it is not incredibly fleshed out in the current build of the game, it is absolutely mandatory for crafting S-tier armaments like the Plague Halberd or the Rapier of Devastation.

Now before you waste your afternoon blindly hacking at zombies hoping a legendary sword drops, you need to understand that this is a massive logistical grind. You have to build a specialized workstation and farm incredibly specific, highly bottlenecked resources. If you do not even have a solid base set up yet, take a detour and read my base building and infrastructure guide first.

Setting Up the Enchanting Table

You cannot just open your build menu and slap an Enchanting Table on the dirt. You have to unlock the prerequisites first.

Your first objective in the Cursed Swamps is to harvest Plague Wood. You can get this by chopping down the gnarly Tainted Trees scattered around the swamp's wooded zones, or by putting Plague Crocodiles six feet under.

Once you have a stack of Plague Wood, take it back to your base and toss it into a Smelting Furnace (or Large Smelting Furnace). The wood will smelt down into Essence Arborum. The moment this essence hits your inventory, the blueprint for the Enchanting Table unlocks at the very end of your "Refining" build menu.

Constructing the table requires:

  • 3x Mire Metal Ingots

  • 10x Hewn Stone (Crafted at a standard Workbench)

  • 10x Plant Fiber

  • 2x Essence Arborum

The Ingot Arborum Bottleneck

Currently, the Enchanting Table only produces one single item: Ingot Arborum.

This specialized metal is the core ingredient for the absolute best weapons in the game, including the Arboris Saber and the Plague Pistol. It is also used to craft Bullet Arborum, the premier endgame ammunition that flies perfectly straight and boosts your Critical Damage by 30%. If you want to see exactly where these weapons rank, check my epic weapons tier list.

The crafting cost for these weapons is extortionate. Crafting a Level 11 Plague weapon and upgrading it to the Level 15 maximum requires a total of 40 Ingot Arborum. To forge that much enchanted metal, you will need to stockpile 40 Mire Metal Ingots, 80 Essence Arborum, and 40 Tainted Bile.

The Ultimate Swamps Farming Route

To fuel your Enchanting Table, you need a massive supply of Tainted Bile and Quagmire Powder (which is required to smelt the Mire Metal Ingots). Both of these resources are notoriously frustrating to find if you do not know where to look.

Because enemies in the Cursed Swamps operate on a relatively long respawn timer (roughly 120 to 150 real-world minutes), you need to hit the most efficient Points of Interest (POIs) and then fast travel home.

Optimal Endgame Farming Locations

Hit these specific POIs to maximize your powder and bile drops.

Farming Location Target Enemies & Expected Loot
Ancient Debris Sites (Best for Quagmire Powder) Targets: Massive swarms of Level 12 Plague Thralls and Hunters. Loot: Easy and fast Quagmire Powder and Ancient Scraps. There are four of these sites scattered across the swamp islands. A full sweep of all four yields roughly 40-50 powder.
Frescoed Ruins (Best for Tainted Bile) Targets: A cluster of Level 15 Plague Crocodiles. Loot: Guarantees at least 6x Tainted Bile. Warning: These crocs are tightly grouped, so prepare for a brutal, high-level melee brawl.
Sacrificial Altar (East) (Best for Tainted Bile) Targets: Three Level 12 Plague Crocodiles (Located just North of the actual POI marker). Loot: 6x Tainted Bile. Because these are lower level and spaced further apart, you can easily pull them one at a time for a safer farm.
Tainted Ruins of an Ancient Temple (The Master Grind) Targets: Extremely dense packs of Level 15 Plague enemies. Loot: Massive amounts of Quagmire Powder. Only attempt this if your gear is already maxed out. Highly efficient to pair this run with a Tumbaga Ingot hunt.

Farming Efficiency Tactics

To make this grind bearable, you need to set up a localized Fast Travel network. Drop a bell directly outside the Ancient Debris sites or the Frescoed Ruins so you can immediately teleport in, clear the enemies, and extract without sailing through the swamps. If you are not utilizing this mechanic yet, read my Windrose fast travel network guide.

Additionally, if you find yourself wandering near the Stargazer Towers during your farming loops, make sure you take the time to clear them. Completing the Fate of the Prophets questline in this area yields 19 rare Tumbaga Ingots, which you will desperately need for endgame ascension. Check my Stargazer Tower puzzle solution to crack the dials open in seconds.
