Life is Strange: Reunion All Endings Guide: Surviving The Inferno

The universe genuinely despises Max Caulfield, and navigating the fiery finale of Reunion proves it.

The Life is Strange franchise has a long history of making me stare blankly at my monitor while the credits roll. Reunion is no different. You spend hours meticulously picking dialogue options and rebuilding fractured relationships, only to end up trapped in a blazing inferno with the weight of multiple lives resting on your shoulders. The climax of this game hinges on two massive factors. First, how many people you actually manage to pull out of the burning building. Second, a singular, quiet choice Chloe makes regarding a specific photograph.

I have mapped out every possible conclusion so you do not have to accidentally trigger a tragedy. Max has enough trauma from the events of the original game and Double Exposure. She does not need you making things worse. If you are struggling with the broader narrative branches leading up to this final act, you should cross reference your progress with my Life is Strange: Reunion Choices & Consequences Guide to ensure you are on the right path.

The Fire And The Prerequisites

Before you even get to the emotional heavy lifting of the final cinematic, you have to survive the literal climax of the narrative. The burning building sequence is incredibly stressful, but it is highly predictable once you understand the mechanics at play.

Triggering The Sprinklers

Depending on the specific accusation you made earlier in the story, you will have up to seven people trapped inside the burning structure. If you want a good ending, you need to save them. If you want the 'Super Max' achievement, you are required to save every single person who requires rescuing.

The trick here is not just running into the flames blindly. That is a fantastic way to fail. You have to locate the Custodian's closet and manually turn on the sprinkler system. Doing this completely changes the environmental hazards and makes the rescue sequence infinitely more manageable. If you are hunting for the platinum and need help tracking down the rest of the missables, I highly recommend looking at my full Life is Strange: Reunion Trophy & Achievement Guide.

Locking In The Romance

Your relationship status directly impacts the tone of the ending cinematics. If you want the romantic variations of these endings, you need to commit early and not second guess your dialogue choices. You have two specific windows to kiss Chloe. The first happens during the quiet, atmospheric moment on the rowboat. The second trigger is located outside the university during the scene where they keep accidentally starting their sentences at the exact same time. Miss either of these prompts, and you are securely locked into the platonic route for the rest of your playthrough.

The Photograph Dilemma

The actual ending cinematic you receive is entirely dependent on your success during the fire and a final choice regarding Max's photograph. Chloe can either hand the photo back to Max, or she can choose to burn it herself.

All Reunion Endings

Every possible outcome based on your rescue efforts and the final photo decision.

Your Choices The Outcome
Save Everyone + Give Photo Considered the standard "Best Ending" by the game. Everyone survives the fire. The post credits snapshots show a haunted Max holding an open lighter in one hand and the photo in the other, heavily implying she finally destroys it herself. They stay together.
Save Everyone + Burn Photo A fascinating variation. Everyone lives, but you force Chloe to carry the secret of the photo. The snapshots show Max and Chloe taking a road trip to a familiar town. They stay together, but the deception lingers.
Fail To Save Everyone + Burn Photo Chloe answers the door already crying. Because you burned the photo, she hides the truth from Max to protect her. The snapshots reveal a familiar road trip. Despite the casualties, they manage to stay together.
Fail To Save Everyone + Give Photo The absolute most devastating conclusion. Max's chronic savior complex takes over. She cannot accept the deaths from the fire. Max abandons the present to try and fix the timeline. The final images show Chloe completely alone, curled up on a bed. You cannot stop Max from leaving.

What Actually Constitutes A Good Ending

A massive portion of the community considers the "Save Everyone, Give Photo" route to be the definitive golden ending. I strongly disagree.

Seeing a deeply traumatized Max Caulfield holding a lighter while pondering the weight of her entire existence is not exactly the warm closure I was looking for after investing dozens of hours into this universe. Max is someone who simply cannot stop trying to save people. That compulsion is a curse. Handing her the physical manifestation of her time travel trauma feels incredibly cruel.

I am firmly siding with the vocal minority on this debate. Having Chloe take on the burden of burning the photo, followed by saving everyone in the fire, provides a much healthier resolution. Yes, it plays into Chloe's insecurities. Yes, she has to hide a massive secret. But it forces a sense of finality. The snapshots of them making a stop somewhere familiar on a road trip feels like genuine closure. It shows the strongest possible bond between them, built on the reality of moving forward rather than constantly looking backward to fix mistakes. Max has suffered enough. Letting her walk away without that final piece of toxic temporal evidence is the kindest thing you can do for her mental state.

The Amanda Variable

There is one final wild card to consider in all of this. If you are entirely ignoring the Chloe romance, you might be aiming for Amanda. This is notoriously difficult to pull off. Current stats show that only about ten percent of the base managed to keep Amanda's romantic feelings alive by the time the credits rolled.

If you are one of the rare few trying to secure that specific dynamic, you need to be incredibly careful with your dialogue choices throughout the entire campaign. A sharp tongue or a badly timed sarcastic remark will ruin your chances instantly.
