Resident Evil Requiem Final Puzzle Solution: Capcom Hates You
I just spent an embarrassing amount of my finite lifespan deciphering toilet flushes and celestial distances so you do not have to.
If you have spent any time in the survival horror community over the last few days, you have witnessed a collective descent into absolute madness. Players were tearing apart the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center inch by inch trying to solve a hidden challenge known only as the Final Puzzle. If you are trying to complete our Resident Evil: Requiem Trophy Achievement Guide, you probably stared at the cryptic "Let the sweet pair hear the voice" description until your eyes bled. That is the only hint the game gives you.
I sat at my desk surrounded by crushed energy drink cans and pages of scribbled cipher notes trying to make sense of environmental nonsense until the early hours of the morning. Thankfully, brilliant dataminers finally cracked the code wide open. The required steps are so obscure and disconnected that attempting to figure this out naturally borders on masochism. You need a minimum of two playthroughs to pull this off. Do not try to apply logical reasoning to what we are about to do. Just follow the instructions and secure your 20,000 Challenge Points.
Phase 1: The Blood And The Grinder
The first actual step of this puzzle is a massive test of patience that practically nobody would ever do naturally. You need to manipulate the environmental storytelling in the Processing room.
During Grace's segment in the Basement, you will eventually reach a room called Processing. This area features a mechanical conveyor belt feeding hanging zombies into a massive vat of bloody liquid. Your normal instinct is to immediately drain the pool and progress the story. Do not touch that handwheel. You need to stand perfectly still and let the game run for roughly 20 minutes.
If you read the "Subject 170" document found in the Labs, it mentions that The Girl was created using exactly 524.3 liters of blood extracted from 115 infected subjects. You have to literally wait for 115 zombies to drop off that conveyor belt into the pool. Once your 20 minutes are up, drain the blood and jump down. If you are currently following our Resident Evil: Requiem Speedrun Guide, do not even attempt this puzzle during a timed run. It will completely ruin your final clock.
The Pacifist Conveyor Belt
When you drop down, the meat grinder activates and the zombies on the belt start reanimating. You must not kill a single one of them yourself.
Every single zombie on that belt needs to be fed directly into the grinder. This sounds terrifying, but it is highly manageable. Equip a handgun and shoot them in the legs. Staggering them buys enough time for the belt to carry them into the spinning blades. If you accidentally blow a zombie's head off, you ruin the sequence and have to reload your save. When you exit Processing and pull the Collection Pool lever, the game should notify you that "A torrent of blood" flowed out. If it says "A lot of blood", you failed the count and need to try again.
Phase 2: Biological Vandalism
With the blood requirements met, you can proceed through the rest of the underground segment until you reach the tense elevator standoff with The Girl.
After Grace narrowly escapes back into the lobby, the elevator doors sever The Girl's hand. Walk back over to the elevator doors and pick up the Severed Hand lying on the floor. You need to carry this incredibly gross key item to a Laser Microscope. There is one in the Blood Lab in the East Wing and another in the Upper West Wing Office. Scan the hand, complete the DNA minigame by turning the middle nodes red, and the screen will flash "Let's Play" followed by a string of letters: GGC AAG AUA ACG UGU CAU.
The Infamous Toilet Flush
Now it is time for the step that made the community collectively lose their minds. Head to the Restroom located in the West Wing.
Walk into the second cubicle and flush the toilet exactly eight times in a row. There is no audio cue or notification to tell you it worked. Just count out loud and flush the damn thing. The only clue for this exists in the Investigation Report from the very start of the game, which shows a blurry photo of a corpse sitting near a toilet with the number 8 smeared on the wall in blood. It makes zero narrative sense, but it works.
Phase 3: Retrieving The Cursed Doll
If you successfully processed 115 zombies and flushed the magical toilet, the game will spawn the second half of the "Sweet Pair" much later in the campaign.
Progress the story normally until you reach the underground Research Lab to find the Helicopter Key. After dealing with Victor Gideon and initiating the self destruct sequence, the facility goes haywire. You will run into the Collection and Testing area where a massive glass tank explodes, flooding the room with blood.
Fight your way through the crimson sea and head toward the stairs on the opposite side. Look closely at the floor next to the bottom step. You will find Marie's Doll sitting peacefully in the gore. Pick it up immediately. The second you get access to a storage box, put Marie's Doll inside and leave it there. Do not drop it. Do not lose it. Finish your entire playthrough and roll the credits.
Phase 4: Cracking The Celestial Code
You now have to start a New Game Plus run using the cleared save file that contains Marie's Doll in the storage box.
We need to translate that weird code we pulled from the Severed Hand earlier. There is a Puzzle Box in the Lead Researcher's Office that accepts inputs using Sun, Moon, and Star symbols. Capcom hid the translation key across four completely isolated environmental clues scattered throughout the entire game.
Phase 5: The Sweet Pair
By removing all the A's from the original string, the code becomes GGC GUC GUG UCU. When you map the celestial symbols to those letters, you get the final sequence: Sun, Sun, Star, Sun, Moon, Star, Sun, Moon, Sun, Moon, Star, Moon.
Play your New Game Plus run until you acquire the Security Level 3 Keycard and rescue Emily. Take Emily to the Guard Room and grab Marie's Doll out of your storage box. Keep the doll in your active inventory. Pick Emily up and physically carry her to the second floor of the East Wing to access the Lead Researcher's Office.
Walk up to the Puzzle Box while holding Emily and input the massive Sun and Moon sequence. If you did everything correctly, you will suddenly hear the unmistakable sound of a child laughing. The game registers that the "Sweet Pair" (Emily and the Marie Doll) finally heard the voice.
Your reward for this agonizing ordeal is a shiny new achievement and an injection of 20,000 Challenge Points to spend on bonus weapons. Was it worth the massive headache and the math homework? Absolutely not. But at least you can finally go outside and see the real sun again.
