Resident Evil Requiem Speedrun Guide: Beating The Clock And Preserving Your Sanity

Turning a ten hour nightmare into a three hour sprint requires you to completely rewire how you approach survival horror.

During your first run through the Care Center, you likely spent hours hiding in closets and agonizing over every single bullet. You treated every dark hallway like a death trap. (If you’re a pussy like me) To successfully speedrun this game, you have to abandon that fear entirely. The horror is gone. You are now playing a ruthless routing puzzle where hesitation is the only actual threat. If you are still struggling to understand the basics, you need to step back and read my Resident Evil Requiem beginners guide before you even attempt this.

You have exactly 240 minutes to reach the final credits if you want to complete the Speed Demon challenge and unlock the Infinite Ribbon. That sounds tight, but the game provides plenty of leeway if you know what you are doing. I finished my timed run in roughly two hours and forty minutes. You do not need to execute frame perfect glitches. You just need to stop hoarding garbage and start running.

The Ultimate Multitask

You are going to do something that sounds incredibly stupid on paper. You are going to stack three massive challenges into a single playthrough.

Alongside the Speed Demon challenge, you will also complete the Minimalist challenge and the Never Touch the Stuff challenge. This means you will beat the game in under four hours without ever using the Blood Collector and without ever consuming a single healing item. Doing these separately is a massive waste of your personal time. If you want a full breakdown of the point economy for these specific feats, check my Resident Evil Requiem trophy and achievement guide.

Why combine them? Efficiency. Healing animations waste time. Searching for herbs wastes time. Synthesizing infected blood at laser microscopes wastes a catastrophic amount of time. By ignoring the core crafting mechanics entirely, you artificially force yourself to stay on the critical path.

The Mandatory Pre-Flight Setup

You cannot do this on an empty account. Before you start your timer, you must visit the Special Content menu on the title screen.

You need to purchase the Koketsu for Grace. This unbreakable knife costs exactly 5,000 CP. If you are short on points, load up an old save and farm some basic combat challenges first, or consult my Resident Evil Requiem Unlockables and CP guide for fast payouts. The Koketsu is non negotiable. Because you are ignoring the Blood Collector, Grace will have virtually no ammunition for the entire game. For a deeper look at the economy you are abandoning, read my Resident Evil Requiem crafting guide. The Koketsu is your only reliable defensive tool. If a zombie grabs you, you stab them, retrieve the blade, and keep sprinting.

You also need to set your difficulty to Casual. You have absolutely nothing to prove by attempting a speedrun on Insanity difficulty without infinite weapons. Casual difficulty fundamentally alters the survival math in your favor. Enemies stagger faster, puzzles remain identical, and most importantly, your health automatically regenerates to a moderate yellow state when you take critical damage. This auto regeneration is the only reason the no healing challenge is viable. Let the game heal you for free while you focus on the door ahead.

Rules of Engagement on the Clock

Do not shoot anything unless the game physically locks a door and demands a blood sacrifice to open it.

Every time you raise your weapon to aim, your movement speed drops. Every time you pull the trigger, you are engaging with a system designed to slow you down. The infected in Raccoon City are incredibly stupid. You can bait a lunge attack simply by running directly at a zombie and sharply pivoting backward at the last second. Once they whiff their grab animation, you have a massive window to sprint past them.

When a hallway is completely choked with bodies, use the Koketsu. A single slash to the kneecaps will usually drop a basic infected to the floor on Casual difficulty. Step over them and leave. When playing as Leon, rely entirely on his parry mechanic. A successful parry throws the enemy off balance and clears your path instantly. If you need a refresher on combat, refer to my Resident Evil Requiem combat guide.

You must also train yourself to ignore the shiny objects. Your map will constantly tempt you with yellow markers indicating locked drawers, safes, and BSAA containers. Ignore all of them. You do not need weapon attachments because you are not fighting. You do not need extra inventory space because you are not carrying anything. Your inventory should contain key items and the Koketsu. Everything else is a distraction.

Tracking Your Misery

Do not use a stopwatch on your phone to track your pace. The in game timer is the only metric that actually matters.

You can check your official time by opening the Options menu, navigating to Bonuses, and selecting Challenges. The Speed Demon tracker will show you exactly how many minutes have elapsed. The game is highly forgiving with this clock. Pausing the game halts the timer completely. If you forget a puzzle solution or need to mentally map out your route through the East Wing, press pause. Never stand in a safe room trying to remember a safe code while the clock is ticking.

MANDATORY SPEEDRUN TIMESTAMPS

Keep these benchmark times in mind to ensure you hit the final cinematic with a comfortable hour to spare.

Story Benchmark Target Completion Time
Leon in Care Center Attic 45 Minutes
Grace in Basement 53 Minutes
Grace Escapes Courtyard 1 Hour 10 Minutes
Leon Rooftop Sniping 1 Hour 14 Minutes
Grace Water Treatment Facility 1 Hour 20 Minutes
Leon Reaches Raccoon City 1 Hour 25 Minutes
Leon Finishes Bike Ride 2 Hours 5 Minutes
Leon Finishes Orphanage 2 Hours 17 Minutes
Leon Reaches ARK 2 Hours 27 Minutes
Grace Reaches ARK 2 Hours 35 Minutes

Navigating The Late Game Bottlenecks

The first half of the game inside the Care Center is entirely dependent on your routing. The back half of the game relies on your patience.

Leon's motorcycle sequence through Central Raccoon City is essentially a long, interactive cutscene. You cannot make the bike drive faster. You cannot skip the highway sequence. Accept the time loss here and use the moment to mentally prepare for the Orphanage.

When you take control of Grace in the Water Treatment Facility, you will be hunted by The Girl. Do not waste the limited Requiem ammo the game gives you here trying to fight her. Lure her toward the industrial power boxes. Turn on the work lights to instantly burn her and force a retreat. You save ammo, you save time, and you secure a safe path to the exit elevator.

The final, and arguably most important detail of this entire run happens right before the credits roll. The game will present you with a narrative choice regarding the fate of the facility. You must select the "Release Elpis" option. If you choose the alternative path, the Speed Demon challenge immediately fails, invalidating your entire run regardless of the time on the clock.

Make the right choice, claim your 20,000 Challenge Points, and enjoy never having to look for an ink ribbon again.
