Star Trek Voyager Across The Unknown Achievement Guide: Beating The RNG

Getting stranded in the Delta Quadrant is bad enough, but relying on digital dice rolls to get your crew home is a completely different kind of nightmare.

Star Trek Voyager Across The Unknown operates as a massive simulator wrapped in tabletop roleplaying mechanics. Your resource collection, your away team survival rates, and your diplomatic outcomes are all dictated by pure chance. You can make all the right narrative choices and still fail a mission because the game decided your skill check rolled a critical failure.

If you want to earn all the achievements without spending a hundred hours replaying the campaign, you have to learn how to manipulate the system. If you are still struggling with the basic mechanics of keeping your crew fed, take a detour and read my Star Trek Voyager Across The Unknown beginners guide before worrying about secret unlocks.

Stop praying to the RNG gods. Here is exactly how to unlock every single achievement, broken down by category so you can actually get your crew home.

The Secret Hero Recruits And DLC Characters

Most of the missable achievements are tied directly to who is sitting on your bridge. Some characters like Neelix, Kes, The Doctor, and Seven of Nine will join your crew naturally as you progress through the main story. Do not stress about missing them.

The most valuable heroes, however, are hidden behind obscure dialogue trees and brutal skill checks. If you fail a recruitment roll, immediately close your game and restart the sector. Want to keep multiple saves? I explain exactly how to exploit the system to protect your roster in my Voyager Across The Unknown manual save guide.

HERO RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS

Use this data to track exactly when and how to secure the missable characters.

HERO ACHIEVEMENT SECTOR & UNLOCK METHOD
Temporal Displacement (Telek R'Mor) Sector 2: Find the wormhole and craft the blueprints. Say the transport is too risky, then pass the final skill check to recruit him.
Beyond The Sect (Kunut) Sector 2: Refuse Culluh's demand to see his crewman. Talk to the Kazon prisoner, pass the skill check to get the truth, and offer him protection.
You'll Never Get Less Than My Best (Joe Carey) Sector 2/3: Trust Carey over Seska. Do not accuse him of being the spy.
Fully Human & Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam! Sector 3: Keep B'Elanna split during the "Faces" side mission to unlock both the Human and Klingon variants.
Neevok? (Tuvix) Sector 4: Complete his side mission and refuse to separate him. Restart the sector afterward to get Tuvok back for the Canon ending.
DLC: Danara Pel Sector 4: Stabilize her condition, follow her quest chain, and pass the final skill checks to invite her aboard.
Double Agent (Seska) Sector 5: When the Kazon take the bridge, do NOT storm it. Choose the remaining options, then offer her redemption. Chakotay must pass a check to stay.
Hunting Companion (Torark) Sector 8: Let the wounded Hirogen recover his strength first, then allow him to hunt Species 8472. Offer him a place on the crew afterward.
Certified In Hazardous Heroics (Pelk) Sector 8: During the Juggernaut mission, believe him about the monster and offer him a place at the end of the chain.
A Borg Like No Other (One) Sector 9: Allow the Borg to mature from the mobile emitter. Disables The Doctor for away missions, but One is worth it.
Living Legacy (Arturis) Sector 9: Show sympathy, do not attack him, and offer redemption. Pass three incredibly strict skill checks to beam him out.
Atonement In Action (Marla Gilmore) Sector 10: Follow the Equinox story mission to its conclusion and save the crew. Tell Ransom he went too far.
Young Mind, Free Spirit (Icheb) Sector 11: Be soft with the Borg children. Pass the checks to convince the drones and break free.
DLC: Investigator Kashyk Varies: Follow the telepath questline. Hide the telepaths successfully. Support his defection, take his advice, and offer him a place.

Best Hero Abilities And Crew Synergies

Unlocking these characters is not just about grabbing Gamerscore. They provide massive tactical advantages in combat.

If you unlock One, his Borg Overdrive ability empowers all systems, allows you to spend more energy, and grants 2 temporary energy on a 20-second cooldown. It bulks your ship stats significantly and carries you through late-game encounters.

Pelk comes with a Polluting Torpedo that deals damage over time to both shields and hull. It is fantastic for nuking an enemy shield so you can target their internal systems. If you need to crack a massive Borg Cube later in the game, bring Arturis. His Complete Shield Analysis ability allows Voyager to bypass enemy shields entirely for a limited time, perfectly setting up a devastating alpha strike.

For pure damage scaling, Klingon B'Elanna is unmatched. Her Weapon Overcharge increases Voyager's weapon damage until the end of combat, and the effect is completely stackable.

If you want to break the combat system entirely, pair Danara Pel, Telek R'mor, and The Doctor together. This combination makes your ship virtually invincible, allowing you to run pure glass cannon weapon builds. Alternatively, slotting Marla Gilmore and Neelix together allows you to constantly reset your ability cooldowns.

Ship Progression And Hidden Technology

You will unlock several achievements simply by maxing out your ship infrastructure and engaging in combat. To afford all of this, you need to strip every single point of interest on the map of its resources.

  • Shields Are Holding, Captain: Win your first combat encounter in Sector 1.

  • Only 38, Right?: Fire a total of 38 photon torpedoes manually across your playthrough.

  • Armed To The Teeth: Reach a combined combat strength of 250 by upgrading your weapons and shields.

  • Resistance Is Not Futile: Defeat a Borg Cube. Unlocks naturally as you progress the main story.

  • Triple Armored Hull: Upgrade your hull capacity to the maximum of 1000 using the Combat research tab.

  • Tuvox Approves: Build the Phaser, Shield, Disruptor, Dissipator, Cloaking Device, and Metaphasic Shield rooms all at the same time.

  • Self Sustaining: Build 2 Waste Deassemblers, 2 Hydroponics Bays, and 2 Bio Laboratories simultaneously. Build them, get the pop-up, then delete the Waste Deassemblers to reclaim power.

  • Maximum Warp: Spend the resources required to upgrade your Warpcore to maximum capacity.

  • All Decks Back Online: Repair all life supports across the ship.

  • All The Options: Unlock every single room in the research tree. You do not need to physically build them.

  • More Than A Starship: Build a total of 100 rooms over the course of the game.

  • We Will Adapt: Unlock the Borg Tech Tree during the "Unity" side mission in Sector 5.

  • We Have Adapted (Secret): Unlock Tier 5 of the Borg Tech Tree. I explain exactly how to secure these specific alien upgrades in my Star Trek Voyager Across The Unknown hidden technology guide.

  • Home Away From Home: Unlock Tier 5 of the Crew Tab.

  • Scientific Breakthrough: Unlock Tier 5 of the Science Tab.

  • Coffee, Black: Reach Level 10 with Captain Janeway by completing side missions.

  • Happy Ship, Happy Crew: Maintain maximum morale for 20 cycles by feeding your crew good rations and fixing the holodecks.

  • We Are Not Alone: Hire allied ships 10 times. You can just hire and fire the same ship repeatedly if you have the resources.

  • Delta Quadrant Tourist: Visit 150 points of interest. Scan absolutely everything.

Navigating The Sector 12 Endings

You do not need to play the entire game six times to see all the endings. You just need to create a smart anchor point at Sector 11.

If you disagree with Ralik's sacrifice in Sector 11, you push into Sector 12 with him as an ally. You can then use the sector restart feature to play the finale multiple times, selecting different dialogue choices to trigger the allied endings. Once you have all of those, restart Sector 11, sacrifice Ralik to the Borg Queen, and push into Sector 12 one last time.

THE ENDINGS CHECKLIST

Follow these exact conditions to secure the final narrative achievements.

ENDING ACHIEVEMENT THE REQUIRED ACTION
Stick To The Prime Directive Use the Caretaker Array in Sector 1 to go home instead of destroying it.
Home, Hub And Holdfast Keep Ralik alive. Agree to take over the Transwarp Hub during the finale.
The Calm Before The Storm Keep Ralik alive. Fail to destroy the Transwarp Hub and let the autopilot fly you in.
Welcome Home, Voyager Keep Ralik alive. Develop the pathogen, destroy the Transwarp Hub, and escape.
Was It Worth It? Keep Ralik alive. Refuse to destroy the Transwarp Hub, fight the Queen, and go home.
For The Greater Good Sacrifice Ralik in Sector 11. Destroy the hub and spend 16 more years in the Delta Quadrant.
The Long Road Continues Refuse to enter the Borg nebula entirely and find another way home.
The Starfleet Way Complete Sector 12 without a single Borg room built on your ship. Delete them before entering the nebula.
Canon Reach Earth with Paris, Kim, Chakotay, Tuvok, Torres, The Doctor, Seven, and Icheb alive. Merge Tuvix and B'Elanna back together if you split them earlier.

If you want the exact dialogue prompts for every single branching path in the finale, I mapped out the entire script in my Star Trek Voyager Across The Unknown all endings guide. Stick to the plan, heavily utilize your science labs to blow through the research trees, and never accept a failed dice roll during a critical recruitment phase. Keep your finger ready to reset the sector, and you will secure the platinum trophy.
